pintbypint (877), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Apr 17, 2008 750ml ceramic swing top bottle. Pours brownish red. Small but lasting tan head. Fruity malty nose, with toffee and citrus peel hop notes. Flavour of toffee and nutty malts with resiny hops, grapefruity bitterness and notes of alcohol. Pine and grapefruit linger in aftertaste. Moderate carbonation, medium bodied.
robforbes (641), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 19, 2008 pours a burgundy with a large tan head, very good lacing.
smell of cocoa, caramel, spice, hint of dark fruits, some citrus.
taste is smooth, hoppy, nutty, some malt, caramel, chocolate, ends on the bitter side. moelikebeer (93), New Brighton, Minnesota, USA Jun 13, 2008 Ceramic swing-top bottle. Pour almost brown with just a tinge of red to it. Aroma of sweet malt and dark fruit. Similar flavor with a bitter hop finish. Nice carbonation and a soft, smooth mouthfeel. Definitely got better as it warmed. Very nice beer, just horribly overpriced. ndubs360 (56), portland, Oregon, USA Jun 8, 2008 This beer is tastey indeed, pours a deep blood red with a small, pencil earaser sized white head. This beer tastes of strong sweet amlts which fades into a bitter hop profile. Spices round out the flavor transition. nice beer indeed. douglas88 (641), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Jun 8, 2008 Updated: Jun 9, 2008On tap at the NABA fest 2008 in Idaho Falls. Pours a dark red with a very nice thick head. The aroma was nutmeg, toffee and a bunch of sweet caramel malts. The taste was full of a very rich and powerful caramel malt that is quite sweet, also some light spices; nutmeg, light fruit and hops. Very nice find at the festival. No alcohol noticed, and very smooth. nimbleprop (552), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jun 6, 2008 Why does Rogue put these average beers in outrageously expensive packaging? The black ceramic swing-top bottle is cool, but the contents just aren’t worth $20. Looks fairly standard, transparent, hazy amber, reddish brown with a frothy, lacing beige head. Aroma is very strong, powerful almost like a barleywine. Dark, chewy bread grains, sweet caramel and cookie dough with pine resin, grapefruits, lemon zest. Flavor is similar, very grainy and bready and that unique taste their Pacman yeast leaves behind. A strong bitterness envelopes the palate and hides a dry finish. Nice and drinkable but not a deal by any standard.
