Hoppy aroma with plenty of fruit led by refreshing citrus.. Rather hop filled flavor. Some caramel, bitter hops, a touch of pine. The finish has some alcohol and bitterness. Very pleasent body. Hop filled and refreshing, this is a fine brew. ajm (976), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 7, 2008 I was nonplussed. Pretty imbalanced in my view - the malts taste raw and the hops are overpowered by it. Not even in the top ten reds I can name. biznizness (959), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

There was really nothing red about this, as far as I can tell, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I wanted to get the imperial porter next, but they were out. Ah well. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Bottle. Yes, as others have said, typically Rogue. Ridiculously overpriced, but very tasty. Aroma has sweet malts, along with caramel and fruit. Body is reddish, the head is moderately large off-white. Flavor smacks you with caramel, alcohol, a little chocolate and spiciness. Long spicy finish. nimbleprop (951), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 6, 2008 Why does Rogue put these average beers in outrageously expensive packaging? The black ceramic swing-top bottle is cool, but the contents just aren’t worth $20. Looks fairly standard, transparent, hazy amber, reddish brown with a frothy, lacing beige head. Aroma is very strong, powerful almost like a barleywine. Dark, chewy bread grains, sweet caramel and cookie dough with pine resin, grapefruits, lemon zest. Flavor is similar, very grainy and bready and that unique taste their Pacman yeast leaves behind. A strong bitterness envelopes the palate and hides a dry finish. Nice and drinkable but not a deal by any standard. TipsyMcStager (946), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 25, 2009 Pours a murky brown/red with tannish head. Aroma is earthy malt and caramel. Sweetish, earthy tones and some alcohol. Heavy on the palate. topherh (943), Kearney, Missouri, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 14, 2009 Ceramic bottle. Pours hazy red with a thin head. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel and hops. Flavor is brown sugar, sweet malt, hoppy bitterness. Decent beer, but overpriced. Maybe they should put it and all of their other Imperials in a normal bottle and charge what they are worth.
