Aroma of citrusy syrup, pine, toffee, brown sugar, and cocoa. Flavor of citrusy hops (syrupy), artificial sweetener, nuts, caramel malt, and light chocolate with a bitter finish. jcwattsrugger (5583), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is mild yeasty medium malt-cocoa, some hops. Taste is mild yeasty medium malt-cocoa, some hops/floral/tannic, alcohol which is not hidden and carries through to after taste. Equal malt and hops, but not balanced to my taste and more like an imperial brown. OK/mild carbonation. Occasional. Rastacouere (5565), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A strong, but not particularly characterful American amber.
I like:
Lean and supple mouthfeel with cleansing carbonation.
I dislike:
Rather dull hop profile lacking in grip and aroma. Not particularly well masked alcohol. Distinctively grainy more than toasty, feeling a bit simplistic for a strong ale. Not a whole lot of malt depth.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 29, 2008 Bottle... Hazy orange ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. Gobs of caramel waft up from the glass and meld nicely with citrusy and piney hop notes. Full-bodied and fatty with dancing carbonation. Huge caramel malt backbone with additional flavors of dates and other dark fruits. Hopped up nicely enough to barely favor the bitter side of balance. The finish is malty up front, and then bitter and dry. JoeMcPhee (5056), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 1, 2008 Deep dark amber-red beer with a creamy tan head. The aroma is lightly malty and sweet with a nice rich chewy amber malt character along with some rich cherry/fruity sweetness. There is a softly bready/malty character. Sticky and sweet, but without being overly malty. Lots of sweet piny/fruity hops. Quite sticky with a sweet chewy mouthfeel, red currant, berries and a light piny flavour on the back. A kiss of mint along with a light resinousness. Decent balance though. The best Rogue beer I’ve had in awhile. ¾ (5012), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2008 Bottle. Lightly hazed and muddy rust/blood colored body. Nose of sweet cherries, oranges and toasted/crust, some very evident crystal and munich malts give it a distinct caramel and apple sweetness, but there is also a noticeable acidic/muddy yeast presence in the nose. Harsh and bitter caramel apple malt throughout, astringent and rough, with the moderately acidic yeast unnecessarily clouding what would otherwise be a decent flavor. Hop bitterness is high, roughness is pronounced. Pretty much the definition of big, astringent, sweet and sticky American strong ale. JPDIPSO (4944), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 18, 2009 Diminished taupe head atop a hazed umber body.Tiny bubbles form a sheet on the side of the glass. Big malty aromas with a backdrop of floral hops. Very much a barleywine scent with raisins and a berry jam. Dry malt start. Dry flowers and herbal hops in the middle. Rather dry and a bit of nuttiness. Fairly thin in feel, but not watery. Some fortified wine qualities with a mix of dry sherry. Just a strong ale. No real depth or complexity. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2007 Draft @ Bittercreek Alehouse: Pours a dark ruby amber color, decent head. The nose is fairly bright and fruity with some sharp yeast and bitter hops. The flavor is balanced, a moderate caramelly body, plenty of carbonation and a snappy hop note. Good, hides the alcohol well, but the usual rogue blahness overwhelms the promising hops.
