A 750-ml ceramic swing-top bottle will be released in 2008, along with draft. Deep copper chestnut color with toffee, brown sugar, nuts, and spice aromas. A rich supple entry leads to an off-dry medium body of tangy raisins and citrus marmalade, bittersweet chocolate, and mild spice flavors. It finishes with a long nutty, fruity fade. Imperial Red is brewed with Crystal, Chocolate, Munich and two-row Pale Malts; Palisade and Aroma Crystal hops, Pacman Yeast, and Free Range Coastal Waters. Measurements: 20 degrees Plato, 75 IBUs, 77 Appaprant Attentuation, 57 degrees Lovibond, 9% ABV.

The head on this beer is better than a lot of beers, just wonderful. The flavor has a bit of malts, a great bitterness, and pretty dry in the finish. Certainly a nice beer, but I’m glad I won a bet for $10 that the Broncos would beat the Raiders, because I can shell out $5 for this any day, but 15? not so much. That lowers the overall score a little.

Ceramic bottle from Lone Hill. Dark red with a fluffy tan head. Sweet, nutmeg, caramel, spice, and mild cherry aroma and taste with a cinnamon finish and a decent hops presence.

Tap at the sanctuary. pours dark red with a thick off white head. Hoppy nose with a nice dark fruit and malt background. Flavor is up front hoppy, but a nice malt background helps balance it out. Citrus, spices, and dried fruit. Finishes crisp and bitter, nice carbonation and no evidence of the abv. Very nice but a little young.

Updated score. This beer has really settled down and has gotten a lot better. Everything is a bit more distinct yet blends together nicely. Original rating = 3.6

Poured from the ceramic bottle a deep copper color with foamy tan head. Aroma of bready malts, brown sugar and hops. Flavor was malts, brown sugar, toffee, mild spices and bitter hops at the finish. Sweet and syrupy texture with a long aftertaste enhanced by the hops. Very unique and full flavored. I am surprised at its low ratings so far.

this is a good beer is, its rich and smooth with strong malts and some pine hop. it goes down really well yet the alcohol is not overpowering.

2008 ceramic. sitting on the store shelf for about a year. deep garnet color with a medium sized tan head. malty aroma with chocolate covered caramels. flavor is delightfully sweet with lots of caramel malt. some notes of brown sugar, cocoa, and orange jelly. the typical rogue hoppiness is in the background here for once. it’s more malt driven to me. full body. almost creamy but not quite. no alcohol noticeable. pretty good stuff but pricey.

Pours a dark mahogany color w/ a full creamy head w/ some English beachballs on top. Strong malty sweet aromas spill forward w/ a very heavy plumb candy and cocoa essence. Full nectar w/ creamy residual effers. It’s like pure heavy cream. Gloppy malt pulp spreads like jam over my palate w/ a mild yet noticable aspirin bittering component to help balance this copiously malty concoction. A massive caramel overflow is round and very generous in the gift giving dept. Graham crackers and some ripe stonefruit push forward. The finish never ends. Let it warm as the hops show stronger for more balance. Overall: this brew is decadent, like bacon fat.

On tap @ the Oldsmar Tap House. Pours very dark with clear amber edges, semi creamy dark tan head and some sheet lacing. Mild aroma containing some roastiness, alcohol phenols and a slight hint of hops. Nice flavor that reminds me of HeBrew 10:10 with roasty malts mixing with chocolate malts and malt sweetness. A tasty combination. Midway mild dark fruity esters surface along with a light sense of the ABV. Toward the finish pine hop bitterness grows but is kept in check by the rich malty backbone. Great mouth feel too. This beer attains excellent balance between the various rich malty flavors and the hops riding along in the back seat. A bigger nose would put this beer over the top.
