COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deserving the title "Emperor of Ales" (unlike the bourgeois "King of Beers"), Imperial is the strongest and fullest of all stouts. Imperials originally were brewed with large quantities of hops and a high alcohol content to withstand long, unrefrigerated journeys. Rogue Imperial Stout, considered the high end of stouts, is made of 2-row Great Western Harrington & Klages, Hugh Baird XLT-80, Black, Munich and Chocolate Malts; Willamette, Cascade and Chinook hops; rolled oats; and two secret ingredients. Unfiltered and unfined, Imperial Stout is best when aged for one year. Imperial Stout is available in a new 12-ounce bottle (replacing the older 7-ounce XS-line package) and on draft.

Chocolate and licorice in the nose. Pitch black with a fine tan head. Starts off with dark malts and licorice, mild coffee, fades nicely into roast, hops and booze. Pretty smooth with a thin mouthfeel

Poured from a 7 oz 2010 bottle (opened in 2014). Deep black with reddish highlights and a small tan head. Some lacing. Rich aroma of dark chocolate and roasted malts. It seems to also have a hint of bourbon, but the bottle doesnít indicate it. Taste is bitter dark chocolate. Full mouthfeel. Bitter finish.

Friday night. 750 ml bottle. Bit pricey but delivered. Nice stout with tan head. Full of flavor with smooth finish. I suggest pairing this with Bruce Springsteen live from NYC playing Jungleland and beans and franks. In other words it's pretty damn good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Canít add more than already said about this beer, but very glad I got to try this. And totally accidental because it was offered by Simon from La Cave ŗ Bulles, for which many thanks! In a way itís an amazing shopping beer, because itís impressive, a sipper and gets you talking. From the luscious roasted malts to the big hop presence, but certainly too the addition of honey and licorice candy. It does have the thick, dark, almost sticky body and richness of the latter, so I wonít complain. Burned malts and a tasty alcohol warmth dominate the end while its the complex bitterness that lasts after that. Very heavy, very tasty. (Glass offered at La Cave ŗ Bulles, many thanks to Simon!)

Bottle pour (Līgo Ziema 2014, Riga)
Black, barely pulls a head. Rich burnt roast aromas. Woh, dense as fuck in the mouth. Monster big. Alcohol not so well hidden. Not so much drinkable, but sippable. Marmitey, yeasty, burnt finish, touch of coffee. Keep coming back for more sips, so it must be doing something right.
