2009 bottle to a snifter. Black with a purple edge. Aroma is dark fruit, a little raisin bread. Taste is strong roasted coffee and chocolate. Coffee bean bitterness. Full mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rating Backlog #3. The ceramic bottle is interesting, but is maybe gives the impression that Rogue is trying a little too hard. This pours dark and thick with decent head. Milkshake like malty flavors abound. Solid overall beer. Bottle - Trappeze Pub - Athens, GA

750ml swing-top ceramic bottle, 2006 vintage. Pours a solid pitch black, with a brown head. Roasted, complex aroma, coffee, licorice, tobacco, caramel, ashes, molasses, tar. Sweet, full bodied, high bitterness, creamy CO2. Rich, velvety taste, coffee beans, chocolate, ash, violets, licorice, a touch of saltiness (!), tobacco. Powerful and complex, still very youthful at seven years old. Awsome! (2013-05-03)

Poured from a 750ml ceramic 2009 bottle. Notes of cardboard, sherry, prune, dark chocolate, coffee, some smoke. The alcohol was a bit on the hot side. Not bad.

Draft, Beer Temple, Amsterdam.
Pours dark as midnight with a creamy, foamy brown-beige head. Liquerice, tobacco, roasted grains and ash, burnt wood in the intensive aroma. Oily body with caramel, after some slip the profile goes to the dry side. Ash, hops and burnt wood in the aftertaste.

Pours like motor oil. Thick and dark. Taste is bitter and complex. Lots of alcohol taste on this one.

Black, opaque, light brown head. Deeply malty with dark bread crusts, toast, burnt sugar, licorice, roasted malts, cocoa, espresso, a little smoke, some tar-like notes, firm bitterness, warming alcohol. Very complex and tasty.

7 oz bottle which indicated a bottling date of 2009. Pour is dark dark brown almost black with no head. Pour seemed a bit oily. Not is roasted malt, sweet chocolate coffee and has a boozy note to it. Taste is very much molasses and roasted malt. Hop bitterness is present and adds a nice aspect. Not as sweet as I would have thought with boozy flavors really coming through at this point. Aging may mellow this out. Mouthfeel is medium and lighter than I would have thought. All in all pretty good. I will try my 2nd bottle in a years time. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bouteille. De couleur noire et opaque. Nez de malt rôti, de grains de café, de chocolat noir, léger de caramel toffee, moyen de houblon résineux aux notes citriques et avec des notes de mélasse brûlée, d’alcool et de réglisse noire. Ronde en bouche et moyennement pétillante avec une texture crémeuse et légèrement sirupeuse. Légères notes de réglisse noire et de fruits (cerises noires et de prunes) accompagné d’un goût moyennement amer de houblon citrique et résineux (une amertume qui se retrouve tout au long de la gorgée) lors de l’entrée en bouche suivi rapidement d’un goût de malt rôti et de café noir avec un léger de chocolat noir et des notes mélasse brûlée. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve un léger goût d’alcool doux réchauffant jusqu’en finale où l’amertume de houblon reprend de l’ampleur en affichant un caractère plus herbeux. Post-goût long et un peu sec, moyen-amer de café, de rôti, de houblon résineux, légèrement citrique et aux notes herbeuses, avec des notes de chocolat noir et d’alcool doux. (2006)

7oz bottle, 2010. Pours inky black with a small dark brown head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is rich chocolate, roasted malts, a bit of anise, coffee. Flavor is the same, anise a bit stronger. Light sweet, medium bitter. Thick, rich and creamy mouthfeel. Nice.
