Commercial Description:
Deserving the title "Emperor of Ales" (unlike the bourgeois "King of Beers"), Imperial is the strongest and fullest of all stouts. Imperials originally were brewed with large quantities of hops and a high alcohol content to withstand long, unrefrigerated journeys. Rogue Imperial Stout, considered the high end of stouts, is made of 2-row Great Western Harrington & Klages, Hugh Baird XLT-80, Black, Munich and Chocolate Malts; Willamette, Cascade and Chinook hops; rolled oats; and two secret ingredients. Unfiltered and unfined, Imperial Stout is best when aged for one year. Imperial Stout is available in a new 12-ounce bottle (replacing the older 7-ounce XS-line package) and on draft.
Measurements: 26 degrees Plato, IBU 87.5, Apparent Attenuation 77, Lovibond 258

12 oz bottle courtesy of Brooklynboy...thanks Edward we made it through the maple curtain. Served slightly chilled in a Petrus snifter. Pour was very viscous and oily color was a light defying black.....no head...clinging ring on the glass. Aromas of spice/coffee/cocoa/figs sweet in tone. Mouth feel is significant in body...very oily and viscous....complex tastes...dates,licorice, columbian coffee, all with an over riding dollup of boiled hop oils that shadows this with a driving astringency that at times makes the whole mouthful taste salty when the alcohol tastes are added.....long finish where these multitude of tastes play out against the alcohol. I can see how this would mature with cellering.....a very good attempt at the Imp-stout genre but falls far short because of the salty finish created by the ABV...needs work. Sorry Edward Wellington Imp-stout wins this duel.

Ceramic bottle, 2007 Edition. Full of chocolate goodness. This is like drinking a dark, bittersweet chocolate bar. Flavors are deep chocolate, some coffee and some malty goodness. Nose has a touch of alcohol, but fades quickly to explose the deep chocolate flavor.

Ceramic bottle. 2006 version. Nice big creamy tan head with excellent duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are wood, roast malt, coffee and lots of fruit, which surprised me a bit. Very positive experience

Ceramic bottle, 11.6% as Rogue XS Imperial Stout. Black colour, stable light brown head. The flavour is quite roasted and bitter, some smoke, reminds me a lot of Limfjordsporter, only less creamy and more rough.

From a 750ML ceramic bottle--Poured a thick, rich chocolaty body with a small tan head. Malty, coffee. molasses, vanilla, toffee, chocolate nose. Mouth feel is full on and prickly with nice hop level. Great beer!

2007 Bottle courtesy tpd975. Pours black with a large long lasting tan head that leaves great lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, alcohol, and a hint of caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium full mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and evident but smooth alcohol. Very good.
