Ungstrup (11354), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 19, 2005 A black beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of coffee, chocolate, as well as roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of coffee and chocolate, as well as light touches of the alcohol. The mouthfeel is smooth, yet the alcohol prickles the tongue. Nice one. omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Nov 24, 2002 Updated: Mar 12, 2008Bottled (2001 edition). Once the ketchup effect let me shake the beer out of the bottle it comes out black hole black with near black head. Licorice and coffee aroma. It has chocolate mousse mouthfeel andtastes like molasses. Still it’s dry and very salty, has some grapepfruit hoppiness to it, and manages to stay at least decently balanced, despite a bitterness that must be way over 50 IBUs. This beer is HUGE!, and also really good. Papsoe (10285), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 29, 2006 Updated: Apr 5, 2007(Bottle 35, 5 cl) Pours a tar like opaque blackness with a creamy, light brown head. Burned, caramelish aroma. Markedly full-bodied with toasted malts and a distinct burned, malty finish. A huge beer. 270106 and 240307 Oakes (6973), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 29, 2000 This is one big mamma jamma. Though hugely robust, with an overload of hop bitterness and roasty flavours, it retains a high degree of drinkability. A great showpiece not only for the Rogue motto of ’when in doubt, add more hops’ but also an excellent showpiece for Mr. Maier’s underrated mashing and malt selection, not to mention the understated complexity of the house yeast. yespr (6889), Copenhagen O, Denmark Sep 19, 2008 75 cL ceramic bottle. Pours pitch black with a creamy chocolate brown head. Aroma is hard roasted malt, light hoppy fruity and chocolate dense. Flavour starts solid roasted malty with a distinct acidic note, light chalky too. Bitter and slowly going into a mild marmelade sweet and hops fruity finish. Main impression in the finish however is bitterness and a lingering hardroasted malt acidity. Quite intense yet also nicely smoothend.
