COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deserving the title "Emperor of Ales" (unlike the bourgeois "King of Beers"), Imperial is the strongest and fullest of all stouts. Imperials originally were brewed with large quantities of hops and a high alcohol content to withstand long, unrefrigerated journeys. Rogue Imperial Stout, considered the high end of stouts, is made of 2-row Great Western Harrington & Klages, Hugh Baird XLT-80, Black, Munich and Chocolate Malts; Willamette, Cascade and Chinook hops; rolled oats; and two secret ingredients. Unfiltered and unfined, Imperial Stout is best when aged for one year. Imperial Stout is available in a new 12-ounce bottle (replacing the older 7-ounce XS-line package) and on draft.

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2007 Thick black like motor oil...very roasted/burnt malt taste. I enjoyed the 1997 vintage with Kevbo last night. This beer is definitely worth seeking out if you can find it. Re-rate of 1996 bottle is evident in overall score of the beer.

(Ceramic flip-top bottle from 2007) Pours like motor oil dark black and thick; clings to the sides of the glass with a deep yellow/brown tint. if you work at it it has a brown head, but i enjoyed this with a very slow pour into a snifter and almost no head. when i poured with a head, the lacing was thick and clingy, sticking to the sides for the duration of the glass. lots of coffee and chocolate in the taste, and great chewy mouth-feel. bitter, hoppy finish, and a lingering presence of alcohol. a wonderful example of an imperial stout, and a delight to drink. share this one with friends and a cigar.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2009 My top beer of 2008. 2008 Black XS series 750ml bottle. Thick brown airy pudding head you could eat with a spoon. Black beer. Nice cocoa and milk chocolate and alcohol scent. Just about to take a sip and I see the description says I should age a year! I hope this was bottled early this year! First sip is really good. Rich chocolate pudding and alcohol. Bits of bitter licorice and hints at sweet molasses. Tasty sharp bitter finish. Cool memorable drinkable beer. 11%? You’re kidding!

Hands down best beer i’ve ever tasted. After taste takes you on a journey that lasts about 9 seconds. Amazing head and the pour is smooth. This is hands down one of the best beers I have ever had

Superb stout, roasted malt & back by coffee & chocolate goodness. Pitch black like molasses & a creamy dark head sitting at a quarter inch, this stout proves to be a favorite. The only harsh thing about it is the price at $17.50 for the XS bottle. I still glad I got it... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Excellent bittersweet chocolate espresso flavors balancing perfect hop bitterness. Very clean dry finish. No ashtray flavors a lot of big stouts can get

These are damn good. You don’t even need to eat food if you drink a few of these. One of these is like a thick hefty meal. Excellent bite and lasting dimensions of flavor. Chocolate, coffee, and alcohol, a perfect blend. This shit coats your mouth and throat. Excellent.

Thick, Dark, smells like Vodka. The perfect beer for the darkest of nights. Best served in a chilled Rogue XS goblet. So sweet, so perfect.
