The taste is quite bitter with a bite to it. After warming the beer a bit the taste improved allot. Very round and nice taste. dsm02c (4), Florida, USA does not count | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 9, 2009 Ceramic bottle, color is a deep amber with a light head. Medium hoppiness I enjoyed this bitter after the first glass the as mentioned bitter is edgy and almost hard to define at times. The beer overall has a nice body and does not fall apart after the initial taste and keeps you wanting it enough to finish it. Marsiblursi (1634), Göteborg, Sweden
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 6, 2009 (Bottle) Pours deep, reddish orange amber with a creamy, pale nougat colored head. The aroma is medium hoppy, near medium malty and light yeasty with tones of flowers, grapefruity/orangey citrus, wood, toasted caramel, light honey, light cookies and packman yeast. The malt is quite round but some citrus and alcohol makes it a bit more edgy, still everything stays within the frame. Tropical hints. The flavour starts with some seconds of sweetness but continuous with a brutal, edgy bitterness. Tones citrus, flowers, caramel and cookies. Acidic and heavily bitter finish. The mouthfeel is quite round and soft malt wise but the one dimensional salty bitterness lower the scores. Medium bodied. mouse725 (74), Albany, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 4, 2009 My favourite "non-seasonal" beer. On draft at Mahar’s Public Bar in Albany, NY. larger head than expected, but even that had a nice richness to it. Definite bite of orange-citrus and... clove?...with a lingering sweetness left on the palate. Felt like a higher ABV by the time the pint was through. Drank very easily, would be hard to pass up whenever spotted on a menu. Joakgust (327), Stockholm, Sweden
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 30, 2009 Bottle, 75 cl - Hazy golden amber colored beer with a large orange head. Aroma is very perfumey with hints of hops and grapefruit. Flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, pine and grapefruit. Very nice beer, but why is it called "special bitter"? Feels more like an IPA or Am strong ale... MiP (9065), Sønderborg, Denmark
