Bottle from South Bay Drugs: Created a thick pillow of foamy head while the liquid was a dense golden honey color and showed sign of sediment. I was surprised the aroma wasn’t as bold and aromatic seeing how this was the XS version of the original Younger’s special bitter, but there was a fair amount of sweetened scents of refined sugar cane and a squeeze of light citrus inspired hops. The flavor is bitter with a delicate touch of hops and a background of honey oat bread like malts.

Draft. Clear amber with red highlights. Off-white head, rapidly diminishing. Aroma of caramel, spice, grass, toasted. grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Medium body, watery/creamy texture, soft carbonation. Light lingering bitterness leaving some pine, resin taste. Mostly malty with taste of caramel.

Head cream colored, fine, decent lace. Aroma slightly of bourbon and malt. Flavors of oak and hops and malt, the bourbon is understated. Lightly fruity, nicely complex. Creamy and round on the tongue. Finish is slightly bitter, with a hint of spice.

7oz nip bottle. Aroma is somewhat muted, but I pick up caramel, raisin and fig. Hints of toasted bread. Pours a fairly clear copper color with lots of ruby notes to it. Thin, slightly off white head that quickly recedes to the edges. Flavor starts slightly sweet with some toasted bread. As the bread note recedes you pick up caramel, raisin, fig and prune. Moderately strong bitterness washes away the sweetness. Bitterness lingers with an earthy, woodsy hop flavor that has a touch of resin and faint citrus. A hint of chocolate and roast as well as some lingering caramel and toffee notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall an acceptable beer, but I would like a bit more hop character. The malt could be more prominent in the aroma too. As it warms there is more hops to the aroma but it is still pretty faint. I do like the idea of nip bottles though and wish more breweries used them for their big beers.

7 OZ Bottle in Omaha, NE. Poured a cloudy brown color with medium head. Aroma of caramel malt and some floral hops. Sediments floating in beer. Very malty flavor with some floral hop backbone. Medium-light bitter. Texture on creamier side. Bitter finish. A hoppy ale with a big malty side. Pine notes too. Not a good score for appearance. Would get again though.

Little 7oz. bottle, as an "omake" (freebie) from Asahiya. Sweetened prunes, raisins, some fumes. Thick hazy dark amber color, little head, good lace. Creamy sweet malt / little change in mid/ well-balanced throughout and in finish. Medium body. Quite good, but curiously inert. Has a smooth layer of warming and syrupy sweetness.
