omhper (12155), Stockholm, Sweden Oct 20, 2004 Updated: Dec 28, 2004Bottled, thanks Dr.Bill! Cloudy orange, creamy head. Dryish, yet fruity. Salty and solidly malty with soft mouthfeel and bitter grassy finish. hopdog (5535), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 28, 2005 Poured a medium, hazy/cloudy amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of citrus, lemons, flowers, and a little earthy. Dry finish. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Dec 22, 2003 Very fresh hop aroma. Murky orange appearance. Some spicy sweet aromas, and a nice wheaty and
hoppy flavor, and though nothing really sticks out, it is quite nice. BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Feb 16, 2004 Light copper color with a nice white creamy head and a little lacing. The aroma is dry and hoppy, fresh with a touch of caramel and alcohol. The flavor is earthy and balanced with a nice lasting bitterness. I was hoping to drink this sooner, but nevertheless it is still good. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Nov 4, 2004 Bottle thanks to Jeff (radiomgb). Quite excited to try this. Pour is a rich deep golden-blonde color, with some light rusty oranges and a big foamy white head. Aroma of bitter hops, fresh juicy bitter, acidic hops and maybe a touch of malt peeking through. Flavor is full, rich and powerful, the bitterness immediately takes over and while the sweet malt tries to keep up, the hops overpower. Though it’s overdone and extreme, the hops do taste incredibly fresh, especially seeing as how this was released 13 months ago. Great consistency as always from rogue, low carbonation, creamy body. Strong strong beer here. Aubrey (2773), Denver, Colorado, USA Nov 10, 2003 Draft: Amber-orange and slightly hazy with a frothy, milkshake-looking head. Very crisp up front with healthy carbonation. Very toasty malts; little sweetness. Hops were rather assertive -- sharp, spicy, grassy, bitter flowers. Finished bitter, which really seemed to build and carry well into the aftertaste -- maybe too long. Some alcohol nips here and there. Rather sharp and edgy beer. Would've liked a little more sweetness to take the edge off. Nevertheless, surely drinkable. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jan 31, 2006 Well, this may be a case where I just hate Rogue for giving their beers so many differnet names. I had this on tap last week in Las Vegas at the Freakin Frog, and the owner said it was an anniversary beer from Rogue called John Locker’s Stock. This appears to be the anniversary John beer. But, like the last guy, I wouldn’t consider this an american strong ale. It mostly just tasted like a pretty darn good IPA. An eleven on the aroma scale. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Nov 6, 2003 A cloudy reddish copper color. It is well carbonated and pours with a good sized head. There is a grassy hop aroma that is fairly subdued. It has a wonderfully hoppy flavor, with a continued minty grassiness in the finish. Quite interesting. This beer is fairly dry, light bodied with restrained maltyness. The grassiness from the fresh hops is what is out of the ordinary, and there is a definite minty contribution from the Newport hops.
