dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jan 31, 2006 Well, this may be a case where I just hate Rogue for giving their beers so many differnet names. I had this on tap last week in Las Vegas at the Freakin Frog, and the owner said it was an anniversary beer from Rogue called John Locker’s Stock. This appears to be the anniversary John beer. But, like the last guy, I wouldn’t consider this an american strong ale. It mostly just tasted like a pretty darn good IPA. An eleven on the aroma scale. bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA Apr 1, 2006 i guess this is the correct beer? dwyerpg says it is. however i thought it was called john toe splitter something crazy. too many different names with these rogue guys. the beer i had poured deep brown with whirly cream colored head. nose of fleshy resiny hops and sugar. pushes dark fruit and sticky hops on the palate. nice and full bodied quite robust for this abv. seemed more alcoholic than the 6% i had. strong ale, imperial ipa, barley wine? unsure where this one should fall, but if it really is only 6% were talking ipa. imo. good drinkin. i think we may be rating the wrong beer here, but i cant find anything else that works. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Dec 22, 2003 Very fresh hop aroma. Murky orange appearance. Some spicy sweet aromas, and a nice wheaty and
hoppy flavor, and though nothing really sticks out, it is quite nice. legion242 (1572), Richardson, Texas, USA Dec 18, 2003 Poured with a huge, almost belgian-style head: big, fluffy and sticky. Orangey lookin'. Wonderful mild hops in the nose and then the first sip is pure oily hops. As it warms, the hops become subdued and the malt sweetness kicked in. In fact, by the end of the bottle, the malt was the dominant character. Someone mentioned that this beer was almost slammable and I have to agree. The last 1/4 of this one went down in to wonderful, orgasmic gulps. raindog (558), Evansville, Indiana, USA Jan 24, 2004 Hazy oarnge, with a frothy, long lasting, head. Quite hoppy aroma, lots of floral, spicy hops and decent malt aromas as well. Super creamy palate, with soft carbonation. Start bitter, with bready/caramel malts following and more leafy hops. Quite substantial amount of malts though, not too overpowered by the extreme hops. Finish is hoppy(floral, earthy) with lingering malt. Great hop burps,I could drink this all night!!! Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Nov 12, 2003 Updated: Oct 10, 2004This beer pours with a slightly cloudy golden orange body topped by a thick head with a decent amount of lacing. The aroma is a touch sweet, fruity (apricot, citrus) hoppy with a nice malty balance. The flavor is a touch sweet, gfuity and hoppy with slight piney notes, a sourness that comes and goes and a malty balance. The finish is bitter and hoppy. Medium bodied, slightly dry and slightly warming. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Nov 4, 2004 Bottle thanks to Jeff (radiomgb). Quite excited to try this. Pour is a rich deep golden-blonde color, with some light rusty oranges and a big foamy white head. Aroma of bitter hops, fresh juicy bitter, acidic hops and maybe a touch of malt peeking through. Flavor is full, rich and powerful, the bitterness immediately takes over and while the sweet malt tries to keep up, the hops overpower. Though it’s overdone and extreme, the hops do taste incredibly fresh, especially seeing as how this was released 13 months ago. Great consistency as always from rogue, low carbonation, creamy body. Strong strong beer here. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Nov 11, 2003 Contrary to previous ratings, I thought this beer was pretty good. Great creamy head, strong malt backbone. Typical Rogue house taste. Full of citrus and some pine elements from hops. Real sweet, maybe too sweet for some. Rogue rocks!
