Had on tap with Kara and andy at some place that had 2 big stone cats out front. Pours dark brown with amber hue. Small foamy head leaves some lace. Aroma is chocolate, hazelnut and booze. Flavor is influenced by the rum barrels.

"first (IMHO) in the john john series that was NOT significantly better than the base beer used. i don’t know if rum just isn’t the right barrel or what, but this one actually fell short of the hazelnut brown, and at twice the price. wood, vanilla, and some hazelnut (though somehow less than is present in either the brown ale or the rum). too simple and thin bodied for a barreled beer. not bad, but DEFINITELY not worth the price. shouldn’t have bothered with this one."

Keg at the Holyrood 9a. Pours brown, sour nose, taste is funky, sour, some dry nutty toffee.

Interesting color... like a faint dark reddish brown. Small fizzy beige head, dissipating to a ring around the glass. This has been sitting for awhile and the character has mellowed. Still has a nice nutty hazelnut, just not as pungent as the base. Brittle caramel. Cracker. Finish is moderately nutty dry and a little sweet. Fuller light bodied. The tiniest hint of rum barrelNot bad a’ tall.

sweet, hazelnut, spices, a little alcohol, malt, smooth aroma. Taste is a little lighter/lacking from what I expected from the aroma..though this bottle is a little old. Smooth, hazelnut, subtle but long lasting. Some caramel, malt.

Tap, brown with a tan head, a bit of a sour flavor but I did not think it was overpowering, also had some slight bitterness, then some caramel and nuts, nice beer

650ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Poured hazy brown, thin white head. Sour, nutty aromas. More sour in the taste, not sure if this survived the voyage well.

Aroma Is sweet hazelnut, mold, some fruit. Dark brown color, small head. Taste is rummy, sweet malt, some banana-esque, pumpkin-esque notes. Great flavor. A bit flat, but otherwise another winner from Rogue.

Ok aged beer; there's a lot better. Has a better nose than the bourbon barrel aged version, but the taste isn't as good(just a hint of the aging). ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
