Tap @ PIB / Pours a weird orangish brown with no head. Aroma was hazelnut and flavor was syrup and hazelnut. Palate was too thin and chalky. The most disappointing beer of the fest.

Crisp and nutty aroma. Glows red/orange-grapefruit color annd hazey. The flavor is medium body, a bit nutty and woody; hard to describe...just good! There’s also a sweet, almost fruity finish. I really like this one! Notes: On tap at the Pints for Prostates/Denver Rare Beer Tasting at Wynkoop Brewing Co, 2009 Great American Beer Fest

PIB 2009. The second John John beer I’ve tried, both really lacking barrel depth. Tasted like a more watery version of hazelnut brown with a touch of booziness to it. I thought this would make a great combo, the sweetness of the hazelnut brown with some oak and vanilla notes, but it never came together. Not sure they are leaving these beers in the barrels long enough.

Old rating from FOBAB ’08. They didn’t have it under the same name, but description sounds the same. Pours medium brown with a minimal off-white head. Nutty, boozy and sweet nose. Not as flavorful as expected. Spicy and malty like a Christmas Ale.

POured amber. Nose was rum, wood, nuts, hazelnut, sweet caramel. Flavor was hints of rum and oak, sweet malt, roasty grain, hazelnut, spices and biscuity malts. Real interesting beer. I love the rum backbone.

Had this on tap at the PIB in July. Colour... amber-brown with almost no head. Nose... pie spice, sailor jack cakes, malt. Palate... cola, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, nut-like and slightly boozy.
