3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Battleship. Pours a deep golden color. Aroma is of wheat, (typical american marzen faire), malts, and a little orange zest. Flavor is a little sweeter than I was expecting. Has some malts, wheat, yeast, and something sweet that I just can’t put my finger on. Maybe some prunes. Overall this wasn’t too bad of a brew.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
the bottle gave a good Pop! when opened, and the beer foamed up the neck afterwards, which got me thinking, this beer was really carbonated,
this beer had a hazy orange pour with some burnt orange color at the sides, the pour made a huge foamy head of white and slightly
off-white bubbles, the head on this beer looked very Belgian, big and foamy, and filled the glass almost to the top, effervescence looked strong with a fast flowing center stream and a couple of other bubbled streams elsewhere in the glass and lots of bubbles flowing just about everywhere in the glass, this beer left bubbled lacing of spots, fingers and covers on the sides of the glass (but what overly carbonated beer wouldn’t do that),
I saw some particles in the glass, there was a thin, patchy area of sediment on the bottom of the bottle and loose sediment particles floating around, the beer still looked hazy after sitting around a bit (from the loose sediment in the bottle),
the aromas were light toasted malt, light bready malts, faint citrus hops with hints of wildflowers in a field,
the flavors were bread malt and light citrus hops, the finish had a carbonation bite with a little hop bitterness,
the mouth feel was very bubbly with carbonation, too much carbonation to really enjoy this beer, light on the palate but that was because of the carbonation, it felt very fizzy on the palate,
this beer could have been a nice drink but there was too much carbonation, I guess I got an over carbonated bottle?
I may try another bottle from another store or wait until next year.

650ml brown bottle. Sticker on bottle says 5.6% abv. Golden in colour, light haze. White head is creamy and sits low. Minimal lace. Sweet nose, bready malts, light noble hops. Flavour has grains, bread, full maltiness, light herbal hops. Dry end, a little tangy, lingering grassy, herbal hop note. Light body, soft carbonation. Drinkable, nice malts.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours copper/orange with a one-finger off-white head and ok lace. Bread and caramel malts dominate the nose with very subtle hops notes. Bread and caramel flavors are more subdued as the bitter leafy hops come forward. Medium body, thin mouthfeel, and a well-balanced finished.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: SEP 26, 2011 On tap at Nick’s Beergarden - Pours medium copper. Flavor is mostly all malt and slight sweetness. Malt flavor was mostly nutty. Moderate hop finish by lager standards. Decent, but not something I’d seek out again.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a light orange/golden color with a small head and little to no lacing. The smell is rather light and mild with cereal grains coming through lightly. Ever so slight hop presence and a lightly mild malt backbone. The flavor is not too bad with the hops coming through ok and a nice caramel malt backdrop.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Although I’m not a big Oktoberfest guy, I do love a yearly pint or two of Maierfest, a solid entry into the style. Grainy, semisweet and fruity, with a definite swipe of pilsner malt, pretty and very easy to drink. No frills, but then again, none are needed.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Churchkey, DC 14oz tap ($7): Pours your standard American Oktoberfest look, somewhat amber with an off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts and whatever. Taste is too sweet. This upset me, because I wanted a good quaffable Oktoberfest. Additionally, I seldom complain about sweet beers. So I don’t know what was the problem. All in all, I think that this was a second tier offering from Rogue and certainly a second tier oktoberfest; gimme Hofbrau Munchen or Spaten over this any day.
