McRogue Scotch Ale is a hearty Scotch Ale, not to be mistaken for its cousin, Scottish Ale, which are lighter in color and body. McRogue is more scotch than ale. Deep copper in color, caramel aroma, rich malty flavor with a roasted malt background. This elixir was debuted at the 1995 Oregon Brewers Festival. McRouge is brewed with Great Western Harrington, Klages, Beeston floor-malted Amber, Pale Chocolate and pale Weymann Caramunich Malts, and rolled oats. Willamette and Kent Goldings Hops.

"dark fruit, sweet carmel malt and a hint of smoke in the nose and flavor. medium bodied and goes down easy. just a touch on the simple side, but a decent representation of a good style. 11/11-7 oz bottle now. didn’t used to be anywhere near this good. not smokey, but sweet, rich, a little peaty and ridiculously smooth. this is what a scotch ale should taste like. best rogue brew i’ve had in a long while." Inconsistency knocks a tenth off.

(bottle - 7 oz - 2010 vintage) Dark copper pour with no head. Big malt and roasted chocolate and caramel aroma. Flavor is lots of malt and a surprisingly boozy middle. Caramel and bitter roasted hops at the finish. Held up nice.

Bottle. Dark amber color. Very small head. Aroma is caramel, and a malty, candy corn smell. Taste is fruit cake, caramel and toffee with a slight bitter hop after taste. May be a little sweet for certain individuals.

Transfer from BA review on 4-6-12 - Poured from 7 oz bottle into chalice glass Appearance – Pours a deeper brown color with almost a non-existent head. The lacing on this beer was quite minimal. Smell – The smell was of sweet and slightly roasty malt. In the nose was a good hit of caramel and some burnt sugar smells. Taste – The taste was rather sweet and malty up front. A brown sugar taste with some more dark bread and a little bit of chocolate tastes were most pertinent. Toward the middle the caramel in the nose became more pronounced in the taste. Some darker fruit flavors and a bit of vanilla work their way in toward the end, leaving a sweeter flavor in the mouth. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is creamy and the carbonation level is quite light. The body is very fitting for the abv and malt flavors, but the brew could use a bit more carbonation to balance out the sweetness of the beer. Overall – The beer did have some nice flavor profiles. For the price however it was not really worth it.

XS (2010) bottle. I have in my notes that I won this on the RBWG bus in Jacksonville last year (2013), thanks
Pours hazy dark amber with a small off-white head and light lacing. Aroma chocolate, toasted malts, caramel, woody and brown sugar. Flavors rich caramel, scotch, woody, vanilla and coconut
Scotch ale isn’t my favorite style, so I’ve been holding on to this. Now I wish I had more, very tasty!

Pours a deep ruby brown with nice notes of caramel, toffee, raisins, figs, with a slight peatyness. overall it tasted very good nice balance of flavors though a bit weak in the mouthfeel department and could have used a bit more peat notes
