COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue’s Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole’ black and tan!

"this one is definitely unique & spicy (for better or worse) with a roasted quality not found in many chile pepper beers. i’d never be able to drink a 22 of this by myself, so i consider the drinkability low, but it goes quite well with tamales. 7/11-still dont realy dig it. spice and smoke, rough around the edges. eh."

Had this beer with some jalapeños brats - very good. I thought the beer had just enough of a bite to it and wasn’t overwhelming. I would have it again.

Nice sublime chipotle ale, light in body with a hint of pepper. Sourced directly from their rogue farms. Solid chili beer if that’s your thing!

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2014 Surprisingly malty. Not too much with the Chipotle until the middle to back end and mild at that. Which suites me fine as Hot Pepper beer isn?t my thing (my wife bought it for me). All in all I enjoyed it.

Pours a clear amber with two fingers of off-white head diminishing gradually to a thick ca and heavy lacing. Nose is... bizarre: smoky green jalapeños, caramel malt, and something I can’t identify. Taste follows, with a moderate spiciness that grows as the pint progresses. Medium body, low carbonation, and an off-dry finish. I’m sorry, this is nasty. As in, sink pour territory - and I don’t generally do that, plus I love spicy food. This just doesn’t work. Save your time and money and don’t bother. I’m coming to the conclusion that this is a brewery that you can’t blindly support. Some of their brews just don’t work, and this is the poster child for that.
