Has a dark brown, nearly black, appearance with a full tawny head, and a mildly sweet mocha aroma. This beer starts out with a clear coffee flavor that is followed by a slightly bitter hop finish. An excellent, original beer; but there are better porters to be had.

Pours a magnificent black with a thick beige head. the aroma was definitely coffee, chocolate, and hops bitterness. The flavor was more bitter with a coffee core. The finish was, again, coffee. I agree that this is very stout-like in appearance, aroma, and flavor, but the feel is just right for a porter. Great Great Great!

This is a damn good porter. Just the right balance of smooth chocolate, hop overtones and subtle sweetness. Pours black with a tawny persistant head. Almost stout-like. You can't go wrong with this one.

BillKismet (3000) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 20, 2003
Liquid black with a chocolate head, this brew had a surprisingly hoppy aroma that complimented the chocolate notes. Burnt chocolate malt flavor is not mind blowing. Metallic twinge and bitter-sour, and again, a very hopped up porter. Quite overrated.

Body is brown and black. Head is brown and large with good lacing. Nose is coffee, chocolate and grapes. Taste is coffee and sweet with a robust bitter finish.

Another nice brew from Rogue. Just the right amount of sweet and bitter to make this a balanced porter. It's on my buy again list.

Great dark and rich color of beer and head. Not too sweet. Perfect amount of sweet chocolate, coffee taste with a bitter taste.

Light tan head dissipates quickly. Has a sweet aroma, but this one is dominated by a rich, bitter chocolate overtone. There is a slight, sweet malty undertone as the beer warms on the tongue. A rich alternative to sweeter porters (e.g., Anchor Steam Porter). Solid.

- dark brown-black color, strong mocha-chocolate aroma, hints of alcohol; very strong mocha character – coffee and chocolate – bitter, roasted, and dry, a bit too much carbonation
