Well done subdued mocha flavor. Good roastiness, light to medium bodied, slightly dry finish. Very smooth, glides down the tongue into the belly.

I don't think that this brew achieved the mystical balance of malt and hops that it describes itself as having. Too bitter without enough sweet to make it work for me. Smelled wonderful though.

Ruddy brown my a**! This stuff is very dark for a porter. In my mind, there are two types of porters: those that are sweeter and burnt malty, and those that tend to more bitter, hoppy, and biased towards the coffee flavors. I prefer the first kind, and this is definitely the second. This is a very astringent beer, gleaning its palate-sucking bitterness from both the malts and hops. The nose is actually very malty; warm and inviting. But when you get this stuff in your mouth you realize your nose has deceived you. The texture is creamy, but the flavor really is not. Roasted coffee flavors prevail. The hops are what really bring this beer down; even for the ’bitter’ style of porter, I expect more sweetness. This just numbs my mouth and throat. Much better (the best I"ve tried) in this style is Boulevard"s Bully! Porter--probably the best porter I"ve had, and it"s not just regional preferences talking.

Deep black pour with a brown head. Slight aroma of sweet chocolate and coffee. Creamy malt flavor with the mocha in the background. Goes down rather smoothly. Very enjoyable porter.

Slightly sweet aroma. Hints of chocolate throughout but finish quite dry. An enjoyable porter, but not my favorite.

This beer surprised me a little, and pleasantly so. Didn’t expect to like it but found it enjoyable.

Very dark brown colour, almost black. Great porter aroma with coffee and chocolate. Initial flavour is nice and sweet with roasted malts etc. The finish is long, very dry and bitter. An excellent porter!

Upon opening the bottle, one can definitely understand why this beer was given the name ’mocha porter.’ It is dark in color like so many porters, and carries the coffee-ish smell that would be attributed to mocha. Notes of bitterness and sweetness that almost seem to combat each other pervade each sip. More often than not, though, the bitterness seems to win out. It is redeemed by the mocha-like aftertaste, but ends up souring after a few seconds. I am not generally a big fan of porters, but overall this was a decent beer. I will have to try it again and perhaps give a better critique.
