I've been dying to try Rogue for a long while and I am not dissappointed. Forms a tan head and is as black as they come. A smooth, nutty taste that turns velvety and lingers in your mouth.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is good beer. Beer pours very dark brown, almost black with big tan head. The head is fully retained with tons of lacing. Aroma is full bodied, multi-layered and complex. Flavor is smokey, coffee, sweet and hoppy. Yummy.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep dark brown color, opague. Brown frothy head. Mocha coffee aroma with a hint of chocolate. Rather thin, but with loads of flavor. Blackcurrant, roasted malt, espresso coffee and chocolate. Long toasty bitter and chocolate finish. Lovely beer that needs more body to be really first class.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black; dark beige-brown head, creamy but disappearing. Nice madeirisation in the nose (beer not aged), preserved/sugared fruit, dark malts and bog myrtle. This is superb aroma. Bitter taste, going on into very bitter. Chocolate, mocca indeed, but also piney notes, dried basil and numerous herbs. Retronasal some cocos as in a Thai dish. Palate, however, is somewhat lacking; thinnish texture and just bitterness in the aftertaste, instead of aromatic delights. Pity about the finish. This does rank amongst the best in its style, and from this brewery.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black with a burgundy sheen and frothy tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee beans, chocolate, and some smoke. Black coffee flavor. Hops are well incorporated into this porter. The hop bitterness synergizes with a coffee-like bitterness. This beer is rather understated at first, but the flavors develop very nicely.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle poured a very dark brown color and like the two previous Rogues I've had, the head was disappointingly fast to vanish. Had a good coffee taste with a nice balance of chocolate in it also. I liked it best out of Rogue's honey cream ale, dead guy and this.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very nice coal mine black color, small brown hfoamy head that lasted for some time. The aroma was malty at first then i got a fairly large hit of hops and mild coffee.Nice malty taste semi-sweet at first then changing to a mild bitter taste that included, coffee and a nice presence of hops, and maybe some mild cocoa. As the brew warms there is a much larger explosion of flavors of the earlier mentioned and the after taste is very strong, mild malt but mainly a nice strong coffee after taste with,a good hop presence that is hard to find but seems to show up.The feel is smooth but also in a way kind of watery and thin.meaning IMO that this is a highly drinkable brew and a nice one to have around especially to scare off those in-laws who want to steal your beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thick brackish color with shades of maroon around the edges. Small, dissipating tan head. Nose is bitter and full of hops and coffee. Bitter tongue with an oily mouthfeel. Seems a little thinner than was expected. Still good though.

Ah yes... a most excellent Porter. Much more coffee than chocolate in this one -- very bitter, very 'dark', very good. Not a heavy aftertaste other than the lingering bitter flavour on your tongue, but I can't manage to find the "light cream finish" advertised in the commercial description. Great porter -- get some if you can.
