3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A passable version of a porter, but the more I drink of mocha porter the more I grow to dislike it. It seems to be the lack of a sweetness present in most other porters. However, judging by the name, I think Rogue wasn't trying to draw similarities among other porters. This is definately different, with a coffee flavor that is entirely welcome if in the right mood. Judge for yourself.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep black with a tan head. Aroma was of piney hops and chocolate. Flavor matched, nicely balanced. Notes of coffee in there as well. The hops were really refreshing in this beer. Nice!

Sweet roasty nose. Dark color, creamy head that stuck around. Dry taste of high kiln grains and hops. Great porter!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark almost black in appearance. Head is medium in size with a dark tan color.
Aroma is roasted malt with some coffee notes. The flavor is smooth with roasted malts and some nutty flavors, but it is nicely balanced. The mouthfeel is smooth but not heavy.
This is by no means a big beer, but it is smooth, balanced and tasty. Today, this is just what the doctor ordered. Cheers.

Nice pour, inky black. But not thick. Little too bitter for my tastes in a Porter. Can't touch Anchor Porter. Nice overall, just not balanced enough. Too bitter.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2004 This porter carries a dominant roasted hops flavour to it. It is bitter and tastes like coffee more than it does chocolate. I was favourably impressed - definitely quality ingredients in this one. I still prefer Kostritzer though for this style. If you're looking for a Chocolate Sout, try Mackeson XXX Stout - very chocolatey tasting.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark with a thick frothy head. Aroma is coffee and grapefruit. Taste is moderately coffee and bitter with bitter middle and a bitter aftertaste. Did I say it was bitter? I am generally a big fan of Rogue but this should be called bitter (or espresso)porter rather than mocha porter. Not a bad beer, just lacking balance.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours very dark with a small tan head. Coffee roasted malt aroma, maybe just a hint of chocolate. Bitting burned toast flavor. Bitter after taste just won't go away. This brew has got some very good ratings here. I am not sure what I am missing.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
At first I was highly disappointed with this. I was expecting something more along the lines of Chocolate Stout. Then I realized this was a porter. It's actually a pretty good porter at that.
Pours really dark with a nice tan head and good lacing.
Smells of chocolate, malt, and hops.
Tastes more like coffee than anything else, with a hint of chocolate and it's balanced well with hops. It's a little more complex than I can describe, though, to be honest. It's good.
Mouthfeel is too watery for my tastes. I've noticed that most porters are on the watery side, so maybe it's just me. Be that the case, at least I'm being consistant with my scores for the style. Actually, this is thicker than the porters I've had lately and I'm likely being a bit harsh. I may revisit this one later if only for this area.
Drinkability is good. I'm not craving another, but I could easily have more than one of these and I'm sure I'll be having more of these.

Bottle from Only Fine Beer (Bottles). Utterly opaque, inky black with a short, beige head, and good lacing. Faint choc aroma. Dark chocolate taste, rich mouthfeel with a warming aftertaste which is slightly bitter and lengthy. Smooth to start off with and pretty quiet, but things get progressively bigger in flavour. I prefer Anchor Porter but this is nice stuff.
