Some dark roast malt aroma and that’s about it. Black! No light coming thru this beer. Small tan head that disapears quick. Dark, roasty, coffee flavor with a touch of maltiness. Little bit of a lingering roast malt bitterness. Medium body with quite a bit of carbination. Overall, it’s not one of Rogue’s better beers... It’s almost like drinking carbonated coffee....

In your mouth carbonation and hops and bitterness with some mocah masking. Light and whipped Expresso Coffee and creamy but somewhat artificial. Reddish brown colour.

Pours very dark with a tan head. There is some fizzyness in the mouth. Great flavor, only slightly mocha, with a bit of hops in the finish. Nice porter.

Appearance: deep, dark black, showing no light anywhere, with a large, creamy, toasted tan head. Aroma: soft, full of cocoa, roasted coffee, burnt notes. A sizzling effect on the palate, a fine, fuzzy meeting with the tongue, a great, hoppy feeling, and it soon fizzles, but not without leaving a distinctly roasty feeling on the finish. Full-bodied as they get, with a rich taste, delicious bitterness in every sip, at first, but it's quickly matched by the rich, and sometimes sweet flavor. Tasty, tasty, tasty! A smile rises on me with every swallow! The chocolate character is felt, too, but it's light as a shadow. To be called a "mocha" porter, this ale would need a heartier helping of the cocoa bean. That's my main, and only, criticism. For a plain porter, this one's got it all!

Very dark brown pour with a thin light brown head. Aroma is very potent which is not surprising with so much ingredients. Full on the dark chocolate and grapefruity C-hops, very hoppy basically, rich and hinting at vanilla and nuts. It doesn't fail at offering nice mocha flavors, but this remains a bit spoiled for me by the roasty/tart/citric combo. Great smooth mouthfeel though. Finish is moderately bitter and a bit short.

UPDATED: JUL 7, 2005 Aroma of toasty malts and hops, with caramel and chocolate notes. Opaque burnt toast in appearance with a rocky tan head and some lacing. Somewhat sweet start, then hoppy and dark chocolate toasted malt with a tapering hop finish. Palate is dark and full bodied.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2008 [bottle] Pours a nice dark black with a thick tan head. Strong coffee aroma with a slight hint of chocolate. When you taste it, you can definitely taste malt and coffee with a slight burnt/roasty followup.

Pours a deep somewhat transparent black with a beige head. Aroma of burnt grains, coffee, and American hops. Mild taste. Not too roasty or full of coffee either. Mocha flavor comes out as it warms.

Yep looks just like a porter, almost black but you can still see through it, thick head. Hop aroma (citrusy) makes it through the coffeeish roasted smell. Complex flavor lots of roasted flavors a bit dry for style but I like it a lot more than my rating may tell you. This is a very drinkable beer
