Pour is a deep black with a tan head. Aroma is faint but you get some malted hops there. Flavor is a very nice roasted malt. Probably one of the more "roasted" porters I have ever had. I also get the usual coffee and caramel in there which make this a wonderful beer experience.

bottle 2004 at toasted heads bar and grill for Simon happy hour. Aroma of chocolate with classic Rogue style flavors of caramel, coffee, swiss miss, roasted hops and lovely herbs. Taste of malty but not over the top. The flavors mixed together to form a well balanced porter that was nice after a meal.

22 oz. bottle. Dark ruby colour with a mostly lasting frothy and rocky tan head. Dry and lightly acidic roasted coffee aroma. Roasty and acidic coffee flavour with subdued chocolate notes and a roasty bitter finish. Medium bodied, lightly chewy mouthfeel.

I was expecting more. Poured from a 12oz bottle. Very little head, but it did have a nice little mocha flavor. I will stick with Anchor.

UPDATED: MAR 12, 2005 bottle. How can a describe this one? This is a great beer but its missing a little something in some category to be on the top. Deep black color with reddish tint with a thin tan head that goes off quickly. Smells like malts and chocolate (subtle). Taste: rosted malt and bitterness (chocolate and hops) at the finish.

Pours dark brown with dark mahagony color. Frothy light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt. Flavor of caramel, light chocolate and slightly coffeeish. Robust. Smooth bitterness with light crisp finish.

Aroma is very roasty malty and a slight hint of chocolate. Flavor is again very roasty malty with a slight hint of chocolate. This is yet another solid beer by Rogue for the price. I would recommend this beer if your looking for a decent porter.

Tasty porter with just a hint of coco; I wish it had more. Why the hell can’t Rogue just put an alcohol percentage on the bottle? How many people think in degrees Plato?

Poured opaque. Dark brown to black with a hint of deep red. Aroma was chocolatey and slightly sweet. The flavor was dark chocolate all the way with a bit of charcole and piney hops at the finish. A bit one dimentional but very nice. The body was well balanced. Not much else to say. A good beer from Rogue, and my wife likes it which is a big plus!

An attractive deep brown with a dark brown foamy head. Mocha-Esque aroma with a big screaming grapefruit. Lightly smoked? Crisp and clean, and buttery at points. Deeply roasted malts. Very straight forward. Acidic nutty roasted finish.
