Rogue Mocha Porter, how glad I am to have ran into you. This is another great beer from Rogue Ales. It pours out with a rather large head that is strongly brown in color. It had good retention and lacing, but not great. Very notable though. It takes on a very dark appearance. It looks black but upon further inspection it is actually a very dark brown color. Matches the name quite well. Aroma was sweet chocolate as was to be expected by the name. It has a light flavor, quite subtle to think about it. You can taste the roasted malts and that acts as the primary flavor and the mocha flavors comes as a nice undertone and aftertaste. The mocha flavor gets somewhat stronger as the beer warms up and that also brings out the bite from the hops. Decent carbonation adds to the body of the beer and ends up being a nice balance. Great beer to just enjoy. Delicious.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. This beer has not a very present aroma, but what it does have is malts....smells sweet. The appearance is wonderful, with a dark brown/black color and a minimal brown head. Taste is creamy with bittersweet chocolate notes. Thin body, true to style, with short lived medium carbonation and a chocolate finish. Overall, a nice brew from this great West Coast brewery.

Bottle poured a brown body with light brown head. Light hops aroma with predominant flavor of roasted coffee. A little disappointed in this one.

Dark, dark pour, but didn’t look cloudy. Fluffy light tan head lingers a long time, dark toasty aroma with definite dark chocolate/coffee aroma (though I’m probably really thinking of coffee when it also has the dark chocolate flavor). Good mouthfeel; not as heavy as a stout, good mix of malt and bitter, though I’d probably prefer just a bit less bitter in the aftertaste. The finish has some of the dryness/bitterness of dark chocolate, though I don’t really notice the flavor until after I swallow. Very nice, though the bitter will probably limit me to one at a time.

Notes from Wednesday, July 28, 2010 12 oz. bottle from HyVee Marion Ar: Roasty bread notes on the nose with a bit of coffee. Odd. Not at all what I expected. Ap: Served in pint glass at 55’F. Pours a deep dark brown with a few streaks when held to the light. 1" tan head made up of tightly knit bubbles. Solid head retention, decent lace. F: Big coffee flavor with a very noticeable bitter chocolate note. P: For a stout, this is a bit thin. The high level of carbonation makes it feel even thinner. O: This is odd, and very disappointing. Not bad, just disappointing. I didn’t check the date on the bottle come to think of it...Perhaps this wasn’t fresh or properly stored.

Silly logo on the bottle. I guess that fellow is supposed to be a Porter, looks like a Mechanic or a New York Jets fan. Really good beer, regardless.

I just could get paste the coffee taste. It took away from all the other flavors of this beer. Pour is a dark brown with a very light head. Taste wanted to be good, but the coffee taste would not leave my palate.

12 ounce bottle. Pours dark brown with a 2 finger foamy tan head with very good retention. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. Taste of bitter chocolate and coffee with a lingering taste of chocolate and coffee and bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body. Feels just a tad bit thinner than I wanted it to be, but overall a tasty porter from Rogue.
