2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Big, somewhat large bubbled head over a black brew. There were distinct coffee flavors that seemed to be knocked back by a too hoppy finish. Slightly better than most porters. I expected a better experience.

On tap at the portland tap house. Pours black with a off-white head that leaves some good lacing. Not quite as strong of an aroma as I remember, faint chocolate and coffee and slightly roasty. Taste is very smooth but feels a bit thin. The chocolate comes through nicely and the coffee apears more in the aftertaste with a good roasty end. Good bitterness at the end to balance it out a bit.

Poured a dark black with a huge brown head. Strong chocolate smells and tastes with light coffee, toffee. Nice bitter balance. A very good and drinkable porter.

Inky black w/ thick brown head. Chocolate, hops, pine and dark malt aromas. Nice prickle, dry toasted finish, chocolate, toffee and burnt toast flavors. Dry lingering finish with creamy front and mid palate. Very nice.

Tap into pint glass, Sheffields (Chicago). It was aight. Since I like the style, I can’t bomb it, but it was disappointing. Not as full-bodied as I expected, it was medium at best and a bit watery. The flavor was nicely balanced coffee and chocolate bitterness, but seemed just a bit on the weak side. Dark brown in the glass, not much of a beige head, this might have suffered in the rating since I had just had a Black Bavarian, which is far superior.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nice thick and creamy head. Brown in color and settles nicely. Slightly roasted aroma with a helping of hops and malt. Maybe a little malted milk ball. Expected a little more from the aroma. Kind of thin and bland. Color is deep, dark ruby/brown. Flavor is a little thin also. More roasted grains, a bit of coffee and more hops. Pretty fizzy in the mouth. Finish is slightly bitter and now the bittersweet chocolate shows up. An ok porter.

Nice thick look. Smell of hops. Flavor is of course very hoppy. My over all impression is high of this beer very thick and tasty beer.
