Appearance: dark brown like coffee, with a one-finger khaki head that shrinks slowly; lots of bubbling. Aroma: chocolate, licorice, vanilla, raisins, coffee beans. Taste: strong bitter coffee kick up front fades to a mellow bittersweet cocoa, then some smoky wood and vanilla notes, then some mellow hops. Finish: lingering, slightly bitter and a little woody, with a hint of chocolate and coffee. Notes: Had some imperial stout qualities in the strength of its flavors and bitterness. Surprisingly, the wood flavor was the most common element throughout, although there was a nice amount of dark chocolate and coffee as well. Overall pretty decent. Had it for breakfast and it seemed appropriate. The palate was a little on the light/bubbly side for my tastes.

Dark brown, tan head. Aroma mostly of chocolate, followed by taste of chocolate, but not a lot of coffee. It’s good, but a bit more coffee might do it right.

Bouteille de 12 oz. Bière brune avec de petits reflets rouges, mousse brune épaisse, durable. Nez de black et chocolate malt, Bonne amertume en bouche, surtout en finale. Torréfaction prononcée. (merci SK)

A great brew for a 6-pack brew. Lovely mocha flavors gently hidden in a light porter. Yep.

Bottle. Black, light tan head that lingers and laces. Aroma: moderate roast, coffee, chocolate, grass, prunes. Taste has little sweetness and quite a lot of coffee sourness, roasted malt and a drying hoppy bitter finish. What sweetness there is is rather bland and there’s not much depth behind the nice upfront roast/ coffee/ hop bitter flavours. That said, it’s a good porter.

Mindblowing. Aroma of coffee and cocoa, with a similar flavour. This beer would satisfy me if I was looking for a coffee, a milkshake, a refreshing beer, or a warming stout. Fantastic.

22oz Bottle. Pours out deep red/brown with a surprisingly light tan head, which at first looks fluffy but then settles down into a nice dense creamy head, reminiscent of untouched snow. Aroma is relatively light, dilute coffee, malt, bread, slight metallic tinge, some chocolate and ash. Flavour is really more of the same, slightly more chocolate and richer coffee, some cream and the slightest tart quality in the background, but it’s more like a very pleasant tanginess. There’s a subtle but good amount of fruitiness in the mids, quite plum-like. The finish is moderately bitter, just right for this brew, with liquorice notes, more coffee, dark chocolate and some nice hops. The only gripe I have is simply the texture, I’d personally prefer a little bit more richness and a little less carbonation – but having said that, I respect this slightly more “refreshing” style of porter, it certainly doesn’t detract from it as a beer on the whole, it’s just a personal taste thing. Definitely a solid brew.
