Bottle. Has a coca cola color with very hidden ruby hues and an off-white head. The aroma has notes of apricot and cherry along with lighter chocolate and coffee malts, some funkiness. I am a big fan of beers like this one where there is a huge coffee flavor that mixes nicely with earth and smoky subnotes for some impact and then has some sweetness to finish easy and refreshing.

Poured from Bottle into Pint glass. Pours a deep dense brown that allows some light around the edges of glass with a finger of cocoa-colored head. Aroma is filled with sweet chocolate, tootsie rolls and a little bit of coffee. Flavor has more tootsie rolls, smoke and roasted malts with a slight bitterness that carries on. This is a light bodied beer, which doesn’t help the flavors too much and makes them come across as watery. I really like the aroma but it needs a little more body to be a very good porter.

From bottle. Pours almost black with beige head. Aroma: coffee, black malts, chocolate and milky note. Taste with coffee on the first place, sour from dark malts, coffee stays very long. Medium mouth feel. Too high carbonation.

Pours out a perfect deep black, certainly can’t see through this rascal, with a nice tan head. The nose is surprisingly fruity, along with some dark malt & coffe. Palate is warm & rounded retaining a nice crispness too. The flavours are exactly how I like my black beers, lovely roast maltiness, with plump fruit being countered by bitter dryness with coffe & choco sitting comfortably.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark caramel/cola color with a brown head. Smells slightly like chocolate, with a hint of vanilla with a strong burst of hops and banana esters. Starts off a sweet chemical-like dull and skunky taste, gets sharper mid-taste, and then drifts into a bitter chocolate, hoppy ending. Very full-bodied with lazy carbonation, feels silky to the palate. The taste is unique could benefit from a change in receipe to not include as much hops.

Pours black with a tan head. Mocha, chocolate, black coffee in the nose. The body for this beer is absolutely perfect for a porter if you ask me. Not too thin, but not impy stout thick, just how a porter should be. Nice flavors of mocha, coffee and maybe a little chocolate. A bit smokey, too. Drink this one on the warm side for sure (like you would most porters, at least that’s how I like em). You will get more flavors pulling through. Overall recommended.

Bottled. Dark brown (slightly reddish) color with a small off-white head. Carbonation is rather weak. Strong roasted coffee aroma, roasted malt and some chocolate too. Light body, a bit watery mouthfeel. A slightly bitter/coffee aftertaste, but overall quite decent.

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2003 Pours a deep black with a nice brown head of large bubbles. Nice smell shows malt and hops but no mocha. Taste is initially slightly maltly with hops in the middle followed by the mocha in the finish. More like a stout than a porter because of the coffee flavors.

A nice porter; however, I was slightly disappointed by the weakness of the mocha flavor.

Pours dark brown/ruby color with a tan head that quickly dissappates. Aroma a burnt roasted choco- coffee smell, and something else that I cant quite place. Decently carbonated, moderately flavorful, can be sweet at times, others times complex, sometimes simple. kind of like a women. Decent brew from Rogue.
