sstackho (242), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 17, 2008 A lonely single 12oz bottle purchased from Wine Emporium in Boston with a sale sticker on it for $1.55, so I have no guesses as to the age of this one. It foams up upon opening, although it’s been resting for a while. Poured in a few stages due to the big fluffy head. Pours essentially black, with a somewhat metallic malty aroma. First taste is pleasant, and gets better as time passes. It starts with a malty flavour, almost a bit light at first, before passing on to a pleasing aftertaste which leads to lingering coffee notes. A slightly metallic mouthfeel in the foretaste (is that a word?) detracts a bit.
Stew41 (859), Caulfield, Australia Aug 17, 2008 What to say? Rich, big bodied porter that packs plenty of sweet roasted coffee and chocolate flavours. Seems to be a hop aroma but I can’t really pick this up in the palate. However, a bittering kick comes in quite late and dries the beer out somewhat. I think I would have preferred the plush chocolate and coffee to have driven the finish. Regardless, solid enough. texasbartender (151), Sugarland, Texas, USA Aug 17, 2008 the beer pours a deep black witha thick light brown head that just hangs a round. the nose is big on coffee and roastedness with malts and vanilla showing uo. the taste is roasted malts with notes of coffe chocolate and burnt sugar. good beer but not big on the chocolate. darkguardian (166), Florida, USA Aug 13, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours mahogany color with a dense foamy chocolate colored head that lasts forever. Nose is big coffe and roasty malts, hint of vanilla. Flavor is too scorched for me, burnt coffee and not much chocolate. A nice aroma and a good look but a disappointing beer, NomDeBeer (129), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Aug 11, 2008 More carbonation than I expected in this one. Nice flavors of chocolate, coffee, and toffee. Good beer that’s very drinkable and worth another try down the road.
