Thanks to cards04 for this. An unusual black IPA. I almost get a malty barely wine from this, though there are some hops going on here as well. Black in colour, but kind of barley wine in flavour. Enjoyable whatever it its.

Draft @ BA Avenyn. Pours cloudy dark mahogany with red tines and ni e bige head leaving lacing. Aroma is heavy malty raisins driead fruits sweet fruity. Flavor is bitter dry malty hoppy fruity, a bit one dimensional I’m afraid. Finishes longlived bitter malty and dry.

I had this on tap at the Tap House in Omaha, Its kind of a low alcohol brew, at 6.6%, for a winter warmer, It was certainly warming enough on a cold night in spring! It also tasted really good.

On tap at The Bent Elbow. Hazy brown with a thin beige head. Aroma of maple, toffee, and a little chocolate. Taste has chocolate, maple syrup, spice, with a big hoppy bitter finish. Toffee in the finish as well. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky.

Going into this one having no idea what it was, this was a pleasant surprise. This black IPA has its hops assertive, but not too much. Tastes like a grapefruit was squeezed into it, but with just the right amount. Very good and delicious. Last one at my beer store, hope to find it again some time.

(draught) pours a murky ruby-brown colour with a creamy beige head. aroma of heavy caramel and raisins, quite resinous, with notes of earth, canned peaches, milk chocolate, vanilla and strawberries. flavour is mostly roasted malts and caramel, some light teebark, marzipan and a medium-bitter earwax finish. slightly watery body with soft carbonation.

The head is maybe to much and robust, body dark brown. It smells creamy, flowery, a bit grapefruit. The taste is smooth, a bit fruity, hoppy-bitter, aromatic-grapefruit. Nice one! 12/12/12/12/13/12

Have Rogue gone and invented a Red IPA? This sure wasn’t Black. Drinkable enough, but not particularly interesting.

Bottle. Pours hazy dark amber with thick frothy beige head; decent retention and lacing. Aroma is cookie, cereal, and caramel malts, figs, dates, sweetbread, red grapes, and floral hops. Flavor is sweet malts and dark fruit esters that are quickly followed and dominated by floral and earthy hops (heavy bitterness); dry finish with a lot of lingering grapefruit and coffee bitterness. Medium body and low carbonation.
