A lively seasonal ale, assertively hopped, dark in color, and festive in taste. Debuting in November 2009, in honor of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Brewed with 2-Row, Munich, C-120, C-150, Kilncoffee, and Carofa’s Special 2 malts. Hop bill comprises Newport, Horizon, Simcoe, Continental, Crystal 90, Amarillo, and Rogue Farm Willamette. Free range coastal waters and top-fermenting Pacman yeast complete the recipe. No chemicals, preservatives, or additives. 16.5P, 68IBU, 77.7AA, 36L.

A moderately aggressive pour from a 22oz bottle into my snifter produced a smallish, tan head that had moderate retention and left plenty of sticky lace on the sides of the glass. Nearly opaque, this cloudy brew is a very dark brown with red-orange highlights under light. The aroma is quite earthy and rather hoppy, with notes of toffee, citrus and vanilla. The taste is a rich and complex, as expected given that it is a winter seasonal made with 15 ingredients. The most noticeable characteristics are the very earthy richness, a complex hop component (derived from Newport, Horizon, Simcoe, Centennial, Amarillo, Crystal 90 and Rogue Willamette varieties), and a strong toasted malt flavor. IBU = 68, but it has a rather mild and restrained bitterness. Great hop/malt balance. Excellent medium carbonation; Medium-full bodied. O - Hops are more evident in the aroma than the taste, where the rich malt flavor dominates without masking the complex hop component. Mogul Madness is a smooth and delicious brew you can think of as either a winter warmer or a brown PA. In any case very flavorful and interesting without being challenging. Highly recommended year around.

Hazy iced tea color with decent head and lacing. Aroma of tea with some yeast and spice. Same in taste with some sweetness, roastiness and dark, bitter chocolate aftertaste. Moderate mouthfeel. Not bad for a black IPA. Could drink it again but probable wouldn't buy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to snifter. Pours a muddy brown like iced tea, hazy. Smell is hops and iced tea. Tastes like hoppy iced tea. Some yeast. Mouthfeel is medium. Not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Muddy iced tea color, no head. Brown sugar, tomato vegetal, funk smell. A hoppy tea taste, a little sweet at the end but little bitter. Very different but doesn't quite do it for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rich red berries on the nose, with citrusy and earthy hops. Dark red-brown, with beige head of little retention. Bitter and strong, with flavors of tart red berries and mild vanilla. Full bodied, with moderate carbonation, and a long, bitter finish with considerable heat.

Pours light black with tanned head. Hmm, a crossover between two of my favorite styles; should be interesting. Nose of spruce hops and a hint of dark malts. Aroma of caramel, some coffee and citrus. Thin mouthfeel. Good stuff
