Commercial Description:
Five layers of malt create a complex, slightly sweet flavor balanced by five different hop varieties. The addition of free-range coastal waters and Rogue's proprietary PacMan Yeast make this 12-ingredient elixir something Friar Tuck would enjoy! We hope you do too! Monk Madness Ale is brewed with 2-row Pale, Belgian Munich, Belgian Special B, Weyermann Melonoidin, and Amber Malts; Belgian Nobles, Chinook, Amarillo, Centennial, and Summit Hops; measuring in at Plato 18 degrees, ABV 7.4 percent, 68 IBUs, 78 degrees Apparent Attenuation, and 36 Degrees Lovibond. (Editor's Note: these stats are from the bottle, not the website, which differs substantially) A versatile and robust ale, we recommend pairing this with spicy foods, strong cheeses, and/or with dessert.

Smells of hay/grain. Metallic aftertaste. Lots of lacing from a thick, rich, foamy head. Deep murky amber/red color. Tastes like yard work.

Been excited to try this ever since I learned that this brew is an ASA instead of some Belgian bullshit that the name lead me to believe. Very yummy nose very similar to a well brewed ESB; dried fruit and caramel. The brew pours a dark mahogany with amber highlights. The fully lasting creamy stiff beige head leaves good lace. The big deep and balanced start moves to a long fruity floral & bitter finish with much character. The medium creamy body is soft to lively, the finish feels mildly astringent. Very well done.

A mess of hops & malt! Some good flavors, though some don’t work well together. Hoppy aroma. Mouthfeel is a little thin with a light bitter finish.

Sweet aroma, balanced nicely with the waves of hop flavors. Rich, complex, and hints of plum. Finishes sweet, strong, and satisfying.

A beer that is incorrectly named. Not much Belgian going on here despite calling itself "Monk Madness".

Malty and brown, with a thick tan head that is quite durable and lasts through the whole beer. Bitter, but not in a good way. More like pecan shells, not hops. Perhaps something is wrong with this bottle.

The color of the beer is red. The head is fairly small. The body isn’t too heavy nor too light. The aroma is one of strong hoppiness, quite common with rogue beers. The flavor was sharp enjoyable hos with a fruity undertone. A sharp and spicy beer.
