Commercial Description:
Five layers of malt create a complex, slightly sweet flavor balanced by five different hop varieties. The addition of free-range coastal waters and Rogue's proprietary PacMan Yeast make this 12-ingredient elixir something Friar Tuck would enjoy! We hope you do too! Monk Madness Ale is brewed with 2-row Pale, Belgian Munich, Belgian Special B, Weyermann Melonoidin, and Amber Malts; Belgian Nobles, Chinook, Amarillo, Centennial, and Summit Hops; measuring in at Plato 18 degrees, ABV 7.4 percent, 68 IBUs, 78 degrees Apparent Attenuation, and 36 Degrees Lovibond. (Editor's Note: these stats are from the bottle, not the website, which differs substantially) A versatile and robust ale, we recommend pairing this with spicy foods, strong cheeses, and/or with dessert.

Enjoyed this one by the pool on a humid southern Georgia night. Easy to drink. Nice malty flavor with hoppy undertones. Drank from the bottle so not able to fairly score appearance.

Drank on June 30, 2007. The aroma was light hoppy. The head was smal to average, creamy, off-white in color. The body was clear and a reddish brown in color. The initial flavor was a light bitter with the finish the same. The finish was short. The body was light to medium, the texture was a little watery and creamy, the carbonation was soft.

Mahogany with foamy head / Winey, raisin nose / Medium body / Intense malt flavors of burnt coffee, molasses, raisins, and caramel / Big hoppy finish giving the brew a lighter mouthfeel.

22 oz. bomber. Heavy malt flavor in this beer, and it’s good since a lot of the time I think that heavy malt flavors are just too much. A great hop spike in the beverage gives it a pretty decent finish.

A five ounce sampler at a Rogue beer tasting held at Capitol Convenience in Concord, N.H. U.S.A.. Okay, so it was served in a small plastic but in my case it is always the first taste that counts. Dark amber red with an off-white head. Very potent with hops! Medium mouth feel. Overall a powerful brew but not really my style.

Big malt flavor, toasted nutty and caramel nots. The hop flavor was light to moderate and were piney and citrusy. There was also hints of fruit, apple and cherry along with a little vanilla.

Bottle. Pours a nice amber, but only slightly better than average. Smells a bit like your average pile of leaves, and tastes a bit like your average crop of autumn hops and pre-Winter malt. Average mouthfeel. It’s a bit maddening how average this beer is.

(22 oz bottle) Opaque mahogany body with medium light brown head; leaves lace on the glass. Aroma is moderately sweet, roasted malt, coffee beans, caramel, hops, and wood. Taste is medium sweet but predominantly acidic taste of a dark roast. The long finish is more dry with some grapefruit, and hops. Medium body.
