zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Jun 4, 2007 (bottle - 22 oz) Deep bronze in color with a thick and fizzy tan head. Aroma is very light but most of what I can smell is hops with some light malts. Flavor begins rather hoppy but moves to a brief malt and caramel sweetness in the middle that’s quickly overpowered again by the hops. Bitter and cloying in the aftertaste. ToadMan (554), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jun 2, 2007 Dark amber color with a big head. Aroma of floral hops. Flavor is quite hoppy with tones of slightly sweet malts. Thin on the palate with a lasting slightly sour floralness. Get something else, its not bad but not worth it. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA May 31, 2007 22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a hazy, orangish brown color, with a sticky tan colored head. Left a decent lacing down the sides of the glass. Aromas are of raisins, prunes, slight rum, yeasty bread. Flavors are kind of grassy. A little too sweet. Earthy hops in the mix. Highly carbonated, but thin & watery body. Finished slightly sweet & grassy. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 27, 2007 Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a thin, coating of spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet doughy caramel malt with a hint of butterscotch and citrus. Body starts fairly full, and lightly sweet, but dries out toward a bittering hoppy, slightly earthy finish with a hint of tartness and warmth. It seems like it wants to be a Belgian strong ale, but isn’t sweet enough, and seems overly bitter. jhumphries69 (717), Tyrone, Georgia, USA May 26, 2007 The beer pours a murky, orangish brown with a thick, soft, speckled beige head that lasts almost forever and sticks to the glass in heavy lace. The aroma is malty and complex: spicy malts, fruit, toffee, and hints of bubble gum and cinnamon. The flavor follows the smell: excellent malt backbone with a little yeast, and some fruit and bubble gum at first. The middle of the tongue picks up some spice, more fruit, a touch of balancing bitter hops, and earthy hop flavor. The beer finishes fairly full-bodied with a pleasant balance of soft, earthy hops and sweet, fruity malts. The after-taste is surprisingly bitter with hops. The mouthfeel is medium in body and well carbonated (without being too bubble). Overall, a very nice beer. Gabemik (46), Joplin, Missouri, USA May 26, 2007 Poured a deep, hazy amber, very energetic beer with a dust colored head. Aroma is mostly deep roasted malts. Flavoe is malt chocolate, some hints of fruit. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA May 22, 2007 22oz - This was good, with malty goodness and a nice bitter finish. It in no way matched a traditional Belgian profile as the Monk reference had me expecting. Somebody put some care into manufacture. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA May 20, 2007 22 oz. bottle. Pours a deep amber reddish hue. 1/2" head almost the same color. Nose was of hops, slightly fruity aroma. Drank this at fridge temp. A bit hoppy at first. A bit on the bitter side. As the brew warmed, the hops calmed down and the brew became less bitter and smoothed out. I did like it and will purchase it again.
