Commercial Description:
Five layers of malt create a complex, slightly sweet flavor balanced by five different hop varieties. The addition of free-range coastal waters and Rogue's proprietary PacMan Yeast make this 12-ingredient elixir something Friar Tuck would enjoy! We hope you do too! Monk Madness Ale is brewed with 2-row Pale, Belgian Munich, Belgian Special B, Weyermann Melonoidin, and Amber Malts; Belgian Nobles, Chinook, Amarillo, Centennial, and Summit Hops; measuring in at Plato 18 degrees, ABV 7.4 percent, 68 IBUs, 78 degrees Apparent Attenuation, and 36 Degrees Lovibond. (Editor's Note: these stats are from the bottle, not the website, which differs substantially) A versatile and robust ale, we recommend pairing this with spicy foods, strong cheeses, and/or with dessert.

Seems out of balance. Big hops big malt and medium body. But the stuff just doesn’t seem to blend together for me. Piney hops which seemed too much for the beer.

Bottle Pours a deep redish brown with a modest off white head. Some sweet pitted dark fruity aromas. Flavors are similar, malty but not very strong. Simple straight forward and not very hoopy either.

Pours a muddy brown with almost no head at all. Aroma like metallic hops. Stinging hop mouthfeel makes it difficult to detect any malt notes. I expect this to taste like a Belgian but it’s not anywhere near as sweet. Has some alcohol in the finish. Not the best beer, but not bad either.

Courtesy of Pailhead. Brown with minimal head. Huge vegetal aroma, cabbage, and alcohol. Flavor is all oxidized hops and malt. Really thin body. Dissapointed in general.

Pours with a large long lasting light tan head. Aromas of plum and raisins. Lightly oxidized aroma enhance the dried fruit aromas. Fruity as as expected with a light American hop finish in the aroma. Flavors match aroma, oxidozed sherry like with a plum/prune rasin quality. Bitterness is present but balances the Special B malt character.

nice reddish brown appearance with a malty nose. flavor is dissapointing. starts with a malty flavor then just goes flat. some hop character but no complexities. bold attampt for rogue and like many of their other attampts it comes out short

Dark brown with light brwon bubbly head. Toasty chocolaty, caramel, and toffee aromas. Creamy and light entry leads to an oily bitter finish.

Pours a clear amber hue with a light.white head with very nice lacing. Aromas of bananas, a light yeastiness, and some creamy grass. Flavors of fruity goodness, alight belgian-esque skunk and oats/wheat.
