Pour is lightly hazy dark amber, thin off white head, big bubbles, vibrant body. Look is odd for Rogue, like a fresh kriek from Oud Beersel. Fresh abundant hops spring forth in the aroma initially, of which Summit is the clear frontrunner of potency. Also slight orangey citrus, soft malts, candy sugar is present though lighter than expected with a name they bestowed upon this most awkward of releases. The rogue house aroma is also evident somewhere back there, what in the hell is this? Palate is light to medium, slightly syrupy as should be I suppose. The flavor is again all hops in the fore, followed by Special B, slightly caramelized in taste. Quite unpleasant, definitely dissapointing, not really surprising, how sad. Finishes medium dry with a citrus pulp feeling lingering on the tongue. A failure in experimentation. Really it just tastes like a stale, old, worn out IPA with a slight caramel dose and a bottling-line-problem induced infection. one redeeming quality: it is pretty easygoing considering the IBU/ABV combo. Again, what the hell is this? argo0 (6890), Washington DC, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 11, 2007 (22oz bottle) Crystal clear copper body with medium beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit, caramel, some cherry. Taste is medium sweet, grapefruit/pine, caramel. Medium body. What’s with the Monk, I don’t notice any Trappist or Kloster characteristics? Regardless, not bad, but nothing worth seeking out -- disappointing considering the brewery (though I appreciate discovering that this is not an alias for another beer). murawski (158), USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 11, 2007 Great aroma of hops and some sweet maltiness, and a very nice copper/brown color. Flavor had a slight acidic bite to it that didn’t seem to match my expectation for this ale. Not bad, though. Palate was a bit frothy. Overall, pretty darn good. framebender (56), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jan 10, 2007 Really, really like this brew. Pours a copper color with initial thick head that settles to a very thin white head. Malty taste upfront, very complex, that finishes hoppy. Aftertaste lingers a little too long, but still good. Like the midrange alcohol content, and could drink this all day. Really like it. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 10, 2007 Pours a cloudy amber color with an orangish, off-white head. Aroma is of citrus hops, sweet malts, and caramel. Flavor starts off sweet then finishes with citrus hops. A decent bitter finish but seems to lack something between the sweetness and the bitter finish. Good but could be better. Capa (964), Yokosuka, Japan

Aroma is hoppy, with sweet malts, spices, and some yeast there as well. Flavor is hoppy as well. It starts slightly sweet and moves to bitter. Has grass and some spices in it. Finish is long and rather bitter. Not all that bad, but I think Rogue needs to re-name it. Crit (2401), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada
