Commercial Description:
Five layers of malt create a complex, slightly sweet flavor balanced by five different hop varieties. The addition of free-range coastal waters and Rogue's proprietary PacMan Yeast make this 12-ingredient elixir something Friar Tuck would enjoy! We hope you do too! Monk Madness Ale is brewed with 2-row Pale, Belgian Munich, Belgian Special B, Weyermann Melonoidin, and Amber Malts; Belgian Nobles, Chinook, Amarillo, Centennial, and Summit Hops; measuring in at Plato 18 degrees, ABV 7.4 percent, 68 IBUs, 78 degrees Apparent Attenuation, and 36 Degrees Lovibond. (Editor's Note: these stats are from the bottle, not the website, which differs substantially) A versatile and robust ale, we recommend pairing this with spicy foods, strong cheeses, and/or with dessert.

750 ml bottle. Ruby, red amber coloring. Sweet blend of malt/hops readily apparaent to the nose. Rich, even body washing back through the throat. Lightly bitter finish that you feel physically through the exhale.

A chestnut brown color with a thin head. Hoppy aroma with a hint of toast. A hoppy start that fades off quick, to a smooth brown ale. Nothing out of the ordinary, but a decent brown.

Cold 22oz bottle: Pours a clear medium amber color with a medium tan head that slowly dissolves and leaves lacing. Aroma is of intense malts, floral hops, caramel and light fruits. Taste is mainly of floral hops which overcomes the malts and everything else. Medium bodied and well carbonated. Ending is of abundant perfume with a light caramel note (that does nothing, really).

Bomber: Pours a clear copper color with a large white head, aroma has flowery and piney hops and caramel, medium bodied with solid carbonation, starts and ends bitter with a long aftertaste.

Clear reddish amber color with big white head. I got a lot of grapefruit and bitterness from this one. Reminds me more of an IPA than an american strong. The malts do balance out the hops a bit. Some caramel aromas and tastes and a mild sugary texture that lasts for a while.

Light mahogany with frothy slow to disipate head. Smells of carmel with some fruits. Very malty creats a thick chewy taste. The hops do not mix well with the texture.

Dark red/brown color with a rocky head of cream. Rich aroma of hops peaking out of a solid malt sweetness. The flavor is quite nice, but quite american. Nothing "monkish" about it. Regardless, a very tastey beer.

(Tap) Guest tap at Fat Jack’s - Bloomington, IL. Pours a nice brown color with little head. Interesting malt/hop mix. A bit more bitter than I expected, but with a bunch of sweet malts mixed in with it. Oily body, with alcoholic notes standing out as well. An interesting beer, but lacks some focus or direction that I have come to expect from a Rogue beer.
