Cinnamon, fresh baking bread in the nose. Creamy palate, but a little thin in body. Some hops. Not sure why this is classed as American Strong ale. Very enjoyable nonetheless. jmikolich (405), Athens, Ohio, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Nov 23, 2007 Pours a dark amber with a big off-white head. Aromas of sweet malts and citrus hops. Hop flavor with hints of citrus and dark fruits. Doesn’t remind me off anything abbey. But decent beer all around. alexanderj (2227), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 20, 2007 Aged bottle courtesy of KieferUGA. Poured an almost brown orange color with medium size off white head. Aroma of caramel, apples, fruit and honey. Flavor was much of the same. The flavors weren’t all that great though. Some vegetable qualities as well. For the style this was on the lower end of the spectrum. RSRIZZO (1362), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 20, 2007 Had this beer on 5/26/2007. Aroma is earthy with faint grass tones. Color is a deep dark brown with a slight haze and a thin lose head. Taste is rich, caramely and bitter. Starting with a full body it goes down with a smooth rich feel. Finish comes on with a nutty caramel sweetness then a very light hop flavor and an even bitterness. Overall its very good, its no Belgian Abby but then they call it an American Strong Ale. I am not sure why they named it Monk Madness when it is an American style beer, I would have though it was going to be a some kind of Belgian style. All that said it is a very tasty beer and if this is what a American Strong Ale is, I look forward to having more. jake65 (1698), Williston, North Dakota, USA

Floral and citrus hops up front, hints of malts. Flavor is hoppy, but not overly intense. Citrus and piney, some malty sweetness and hints of dark fruits. Overall this is easy drinking and enjoyable, yet relatively forgetable Headbanger (1582), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 9, 2007 22oz bomber-Pours a cloudy/murky brown body with a nice tan head which has an aroma of hops, sweetness, and a little malt. The taste comes across initially as a bit tart then moves into a nice malt flavor and finishing with a small amount of hops. Don’t know where the Monk comes from but a decent tasting beer that I would not go out of my way to purchase. BlackForestCO (820), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 28, 2007 Another from old notes. Bomber. Poured a reddish brown color with a moderate off-white head. Aroma was mostly hops. Malt entry leads quickly into a hoppy presence that finishes with fruity undertones. Not bad, but definitely not my favorite offering from Rogue.
