Commercial Description:
Five layers of malt create a complex, slightly sweet flavor balanced by five different hop varieties. The addition of free-range coastal waters and Rogue's proprietary PacMan Yeast make this 12-ingredient elixir something Friar Tuck would enjoy! We hope you do too! Monk Madness Ale is brewed with 2-row Pale, Belgian Munich, Belgian Special B, Weyermann Melonoidin, and Amber Malts; Belgian Nobles, Chinook, Amarillo, Centennial, and Summit Hops; measuring in at Plato 18 degrees, ABV 7.4 percent, 68 IBUs, 78 degrees Apparent Attenuation, and 36 Degrees Lovibond. (Editor's Note: these stats are from the bottle, not the website, which differs substantially) A versatile and robust ale, we recommend pairing this with spicy foods, strong cheeses, and/or with dessert.

Pours a clear reddish brown color with a thin offwhite head. Aroma and flavor of resinous and fruity hops with toasted malt and a bitter finish. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and soft carbonation.

Pours a clear dark ruby with a thick head. Nose is sweet like a peach. Taste is slightly bitter, more so as time goes on. Even and consistent. Just a slight bit of sweetness to it and alcohol showing itself on the end. Feel is standard with a little bit more than the normal amount of carbonation. Highly drinkable. Nothing fabulous (I probably won’t give it a go again), but still another good brew by Rogue.

Bottle. Malty aroma, with a little bit of hops. A deep amber beer with a tan head. Flavor is at first bitter, than an odd sweatness that ends with hops. Medium to medium-full body. Something just doesn’tfit with this beer for me, but the quality still comes through.

muddy dark brown, frothy tan head, tons of lace, light aroma from a glass not designed to show aroma, big body, rich dry chocolate malt flavor with lots of hop flavor and lingering bitterness, much more about the hops and bitterness, the chocolate is nice but is the whole story on the malt, not a Belgian, more like a Mogul Madness with a bit more chocolate malt character, a hint of sweetness shows up at the bottom of the glass,

a bit grassy in the aroma, more of the sweetness showing up, even the hops have a sweet edge - from the randall?

same appearance, sweet fruity aroma with a touch of chocolate and light floral hops, very rich chocolate flavor, lots of peppery spices keep it dry, mild bitterness follows the spicyness and builds towards a long bitter finish, a really nice big spicy brown or porter with a Belgian twist from the touch of fruity character

Pours a dark amber brown color with a creamy off-white head. Strong malty aroma with caramel, molasses and some hops. Sweet-caramel, molasses-taste with strong malty character. Hops on the backside. Nice offering.

Unique offering from Rogue, what an enjoyable bomber this turned out to be. Funky little aroma of sweet mealy malt, reminiscent of canned malt extract. Light brown sugar sweetness as well, the aroma is quite complex and soft. Murky amber-brown pour with a thin filmy tan head and a blanket of lacing. Silky and warm on the palate, this ones exceptionally smooth. Slight alcohol effect on the gums, mouth feel is really inviting. Plenty of malts contribute to a wonderful flavor. Burnt caramel and molasses flavors as well. The Belgian influence is noticed by some faint candy sugars and sweet dark fruit. There is a touch of grassy earthiness hidden in there. The American influence is also noticed by a heavy hop infusion, nice and floral and ever so bitter. This is one of my favorites by Rogue.

Distinguishable malts and hops. Not the smoothest, especially compared to mother Rogues. Similar to an IPA, but nothing great.

22oz bottle. Pours hazy brown, with a thick tan head. Aroma is primarily hops, with a bit of malt. Flavor is primarily hoppy, but there is a bit of toffee and caramel. This beer was OK, but with the name and bottle graphics, I expected something remotely Belgian-Style.
