God, what a shame. Good points for appearance and a nice nose that belies the nasty hops. IndianaRed (1562), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 20, 2007 Bottle Pours a deep redish brown with a modest off white head. Some sweet pitted dark fruity aromas. Flavors are similar, malty but not very strong. Simple straight forward and not very hoopy either. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2006 From a bargain-priced 22 oz. bottle ($3?). Dark-brown color with some ruby tints and a thin white head. Aroma is a mild nutty malt aroma dominated by hops, but overall the aroma isn’t all that intense. Taste is a messy meld of hops that overwhelms the mix of malts. Meh. redlight (1509), Winter Park, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 14, 2006 Some caramel aroma, with some hops, and some rogue aroma. Pours a translucient brown. A lot of caramel, toffee, with piney hops. Light on the palate. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 19, 2006 Dark red/brown color with a rocky head of cream. Rich aroma of hops peaking out of a solid malt sweetness. The flavor is quite nice, but quite american. Nothing "monkish" about it. Regardless, a very tastey beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 2, 2007 Pours mahogany w/ a full semi creamy froth. Nice lacing. Aromas of malted grapefruit rind. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. Its really hoppy w/ a balanced malt backbone. Flavors of caramel and grapefruit rind dominate this brew. The aroma really misleads you into thinking its gonna be a hop freak fest but it’s actually quite mellow. Still, a hop heads delight. Finish is bittered appropiately. It’s a snappy lil’ brew. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 22, 2007 Slightly hazy copper with a fluffy, quickly diminishing off-white head. The aroma is not bad, but not overly enthralling either. Sweet caramel, pine resin, light grassiness, whole grains, Earthy notes, light fruit (like raisins or cherries), dry biscuits and a hint of grapefruit zest. The body is big and full, almost surprisingly so. The bubbles are soft, but it doesn’t help the body all that much. The flavor is kind of odd, actually. It’s disconcerting to find that just as you’re about the grab the essence of the malt profile, it’s totally obliterated by the too-intense hop bitterness. I think this could be interesting if you could get some more malt goodness to come out. Or maybe if the yeast was a little more Belgian-y. I don’t know. I think I can imagine the hope for this beer, but I just don’t think execution really brought it to fruition. drowland (1444), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
