Interesting malt/hop mix. A bit more bitter than I expected, but with a bunch of sweet malts mixed in with it. Oily body, with alcoholic notes standing out as well. An interesting beer, but lacks some focus or direction that I have come to expect from a Rogue beer. moejuck (1172), Ohio, USA

Dark reddish brown in appearance with a medium palate. Lots of tea flavor with a nice hop presence. Easy to drink and enjoyable. porterhouse (1166), Alna, Maine, USA

Rather unpleasant to drink...Pours a hazy dark amber with about one finger of amberish biege head that recedes a bit but holds pretty tight. Aroma is mostly dominated by maltiness - rock candy and vanilla. Some piney hops in there as well. Mouthfeel is full but a bit pebbly, also a bit chewy. Big sheets of lacing inside of glass. Kind of nice-looking. Flavor is kind of strange - quite bitter. Bitterness actually coats the tongue. Pine. Barely any malt to be found. Some caramel and vanilla creeps in as it warms up. Has traits of a barleywine or big IPA but a very poor flavor profile if you ask me. Pine isn’t particularly sharp but beer just doesn’t have an overall good taste. Alcohol well-hidden. Pour was a beautiful amber brown color with nice head. Flavor was a lot of grapefruit and lemon smothering out some candied sugar, fruity underneath flavor. Thin mouthfeel. This is what happens when you ask a hophead to attempt a Belgian. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA

Nice aroma crisp and fresh, some dark fruits. Taste an odd mix, seems off or maybe too much alcohol, I think this would be better if it was more mild. Still not bad, pretty typical for Rogue. mephisto (1144), Taiwan

Please explain to me what similarity this beer has to any beer Belgian other than some common themed malts and the existence of water and yeast, which are not Belgian… The body had some hints of toffee, brown sugar and a light smokiness, but that was far overpowered by the aggressive alpha American hops. Was this an actual recipe or leftovers and a time crunch to brew a new beer?
I was most let down that it was not even an attempt at a Belgian style, but a ruse to provoke my curiosity. One doesn’t order a beer self titled STOUT and receive a glass of milk unnoticed, no difference here.
