Commercial Description:
Five layers of malt create a complex, slightly sweet flavor balanced by five different hop varieties. The addition of free-range coastal waters and Rogue's proprietary PacMan Yeast make this 12-ingredient elixir something Friar Tuck would enjoy! We hope you do too! Monk Madness Ale is brewed with 2-row Pale, Belgian Munich, Belgian Special B, Weyermann Melonoidin, and Amber Malts; Belgian Nobles, Chinook, Amarillo, Centennial, and Summit Hops; measuring in at Plato 18 degrees, ABV 7.4 percent, 68 IBUs, 78 degrees Apparent Attenuation, and 36 Degrees Lovibond. (Editor's Note: these stats are from the bottle, not the website, which differs substantially) A versatile and robust ale, we recommend pairing this with spicy foods, strong cheeses, and/or with dessert.

A decent, if mostly unremarkable American Strong, from Rogue. Color is a medium, slightly reddish brown. Nose and flavor are both dominated by the hops. Not too complex, but with good flavors.

nice reddish brown appearance with a malty nose. flavor is dissapointing. starts with a malty flavor then just goes flat. some hop character but no complexities. bold attampt for rogue and like many of their other attampts it comes out short

(from notes). Bottle. Caramel malts and orange nose. Sweet hop balance. Pours opaque with cloudyness, amber. No head. Hoppy as HELL for the style, probably too hoppy. Palate is excessively dry.

A mess of hops & malt! Some good flavors, though some don’t work well together. Hoppy aroma. Mouthfeel is a little thin with a light bitter finish.

Mahogany with foamy head / Winey, raisin nose / Medium body / Intense malt flavors of burnt coffee, molasses, raisins, and caramel / Big hoppy finish giving the brew a lighter mouthfeel.

22oz bomber, poured a reddish-brown color, hazy, with a weak head that didnt last long. Slightly malty aroma with hops, dry alcohol, a bit of metallic smell I thought. Taste was mediocre, pretty bitter with some brown sugar and dry alcohol finish. A very simple brew, not all that well balanced. No linger on the palate, high carbonation.

dirty brown with quantitatively examined large head, woody nose, smokey raost flavor, strangely non-yeasty and not of any sort of belgium style at all, a decent ale but really nothing out of the ordinary

Copper-red pour with a lasting creamy tan head. Oak, earthy and woodsy notes in the aroma. Roasted malt towards the beginning, more towards the middle and a lingering smokiness towards the finish. There is also some dried fruit, chocolate and hoppy bitterness towards the finish. Hmm... strange malt attack, but pretty good in my eyes.
