Morimoto Black Obi Soba Ale version. Poured a dark brown with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of light roast, nuts, and caramel. Tastes of nuts, some dark fruits, and caramel. Nutty. Malty sweet with a very light bitter finish. Tastes and aromas were both on the subtle side. Body on the thinner side. Some lacing left on the glass.

12/4/2009 11:12:56 AM Bottle from Cracked Kettle, slightly past due date. Dark brown, amber body with healthy tan nose. Nice spicy nose of malts and nuts. Taste is quite thin, of rice and hops. Not much there. I am wondering if it’s slightly off. Warms up a bit and gets spicier in the finish.

Pours very dark but not quite black. No hops to speak of. Deep but not overpowering malt. Very mild toffee, chocolate, and licorice. Nice ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. It poured a red color with a white head. The aroma was malty, with rice and roast. The taste was similar to the aroma with roasty bitterness and more malts. Not my style, but still decent.

Wondeful beer by rogue. Has a dark look and the malt comes through in stages from caramel to the roast on the back end.

I was expecting a little more out of this beer. Was better than average, just after trying many other Rogue beers, I thought this would be somewhat better since it’s sold in 22 oz. bottles. I also watch Iron Chef and like Morimoto’s cooking style, so was curious to try this. Maybe this beer is more about the label, or is what he likes to drink? Don’t think I’ll be paying that price again. Would buy in a Japanese restaurant though if they served it. Might be better with Sushi.
