theviolet (168), New York, New York, USA Oct 13, 2007 Strong aroma of hops some citrus fruit. Yeast. Cloudy golden. Foamy white head. I don’t like the head. Very light and hoppy taste. Some yeast in the aftertaste. Spices and citrus. Decent, yet there is something lacking. Full mouthfeel, not too much carbonation. Good beer. Échantillon, bue au Mondial de la bière 2007, savourée le 1er juin 2007; oeil : dorée, claire, pas d’effervescence, petite mousse blanche; nez : très houblonnée, pamplemousse, citrique, malt à peine perceptible, frais; bouche : attaque de houblon, sèche, pamplemousse, sèche, alcool mais sans son poivre, malt à peine perceptible, longue finale en un beau houblon tranchant, légère astringence, corps moyen, assez amère; en résumé : bien bon cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 5, 2007 Served from tap in a sniffer at the Bocktown. Ubiquitous american lager color but with a slight haze.Has the same aroma as many mild IPAs I’ve tasted. Very bitter initial taste impact. Also has a malt and alky character that gets in your face. This is certainly more than a regular beer. Decent carbonation and a very strong lingering finish. Rather rude for a beer but it’s tuff for americans to hide 9%. Scores pretty low on the cheapdark enjoyability scale. Will not buy again. Cheapdark is not good enough to appreciate this beer. chef201atc (249), Weatherford, Texas, USA Sep 29, 2007 Slightly cloudy straw colored pour, smallish white head. Nose is very light perfume, a bit flowery, very small amount of hops. Light bodied palate with moderate carbonation. The flavor is more of the flowery perfume from the nose. fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 27, 2007 For sure a big lager. Not too pilsnery but good overall. one of the best heavy light colored lagers out there. Nice hoppyness and malty to pair. Grandpa (325), Verona, New York, USA Sep 27, 2007 It poured a pale yellow with a big white head. The hops came through first and lasted through a lingering aftertaste. The hops seemed to mask the effects of any malt. It was light and refreshing on a hot day, but out of balance. The term Imperial implies strong or extreme. In this case it appears to mean over-hopped. henry3r (586), Wichita, Kansas, USA Sep 24, 2007 The 22 ounce bottle poured a clear light orange-amber colored beverage with a modest sized white frothy head that was partially lasting and left good lacing on the glass. Be careful pouring ... this one is bottle conditioned. The aroma presents a crisp floral hop presence initially while underneath there lurks a subtle sense of roast malt, leather and nuts. The body is a mouth full and the carbonation is lively while the texture is smooth, creamy and inviting. The flavor starts out lightly bitter and grows to become a bit intense in the middle then fades toward the end of the long finish. There is a nice alcohol warmth in the chest at the end as well. Beerlando (2286), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 21, 2007 Dense, cloudy, glowing orange body. Moderate, pure white head that settles to a thin film with a rim. Ample legs reveal thickness, and give way to patchy ribbons of lacing. The aroma shows big, toasty and buttery malts with significant floral hop presence. Honey adds good balance to the nose, completing a simple, yet impressive scent profile. Flavors are heavily toasty, with creamy, buttery toffee malts and significant hoppy bitterness. Again, a few drops of honey save the day and make everything right. Medium-full body that is somewhat sticky and ever so slightly cloying. Bitter, floral hoppy finish. Well crafted brew, and an excellent representative of the style.
