TheSponge (272), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Aug 22, 2009 Bottle purchased at Whole Foods in Bellevue, WA. Pours a cloudy golden straw color. Aroma: Pineapple and hops. Flavor: Pineapple, sweet malt, with a hint of corn with a dry finish. grebs (71), Ohio, USA Aug 10, 2009 Interesting beer. Notes of pineapple on first taste which dissipate. Grapefruit in the middle and back end along with some non-descript spice. Maltier than expected but quite good. Perhaps not up to par with what you would expect from Rogue but still a quality brew that I would drink again. DandyWolfFloyd (331), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 10, 2009 Aroma is a nice little dash of hops, some zesty spice, and a floral notes. The appearance is a very slight cloudiness and a thin white collar. The flavor is a very definite oily hop, zest of grapefruit, with very nice malt bodies to compliment the assertiveness. Complete from initial taste to ending, the first feel is the sensations of the flavors and the ending provides all the adjectives that can describe it’s intriguing zests, spices, and bites. Very good, especially with pork kakuni. Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Aug 4, 2009 It pours a rather typical clear straw-yellow, but gets a point for having a rather thick, fluffy white head. Aroma is strong and malty with a firm fruity overtone, mainly apple and lemon. Flavor is a bit bland and has an unpleasing metallic taste to it, but is still palatable. Texture is edgy and just a little tingly, nothing to write home about. This is the only Rogue beer I have ever tried that disappointed, but I will finish this bottle. cprochak (388), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 27, 2009 On tap at the brewery on 6/28/09. At brewery, tap was part of XS series, not sure if the recipe changed, or if the XS imperial Pilsner is different altogether.
Pours beautiful gold with a solid head that lasts. Nice floral aroma, with a touch of sweetness. Super smooth and very drinkable, and no doubt the best pilsner I’ve had to date. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Jul 17, 2009 Draught at Rogue in SF during RBSG. Clear straw (pretty light for an imperial, but more like a regular pils) with a white head. Spicy and grassy hop aroma with some sweet bready malt. Lots of thick, doughy malt and spicy saaz in the flavor. Not really that sweet or bitter, just more malty than a normal pils. Thick body with medium carbonation. An odd one. Literally a pils but stronger, which actually makes it less interesting than the more out-there interpretations of the style.
