jhumphries69 (717), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Jun 23, 2007 Pours a deep and very cloudy gold with hints of orange. It pours up an immense, cloudy, uneven, off-white head that laces the glass heavily and lasts impressively - fading to a persistent, medium-sized, rocky layer floating on the beer. The aroma is an excellent mix of malt and hops - big, chewy, sweet, malty smells mixed with fragrant, grassy, almost perfumy hops. The aroma, overall, leans towards the malts. The first sip has a delightful maltiness. The tip of the tongue detects the sweet flavors of caramel and honey mixed with bitter and flowery hop flavors - again, leaning more towards malty and sweet. The middle of the tongue detects a more complex balance - a taste of peppery, bitter hops slowly begins to balance the huge malt presence. By the end, the back of the tongue tastes a very well-balanced, hoppy mixture that has begun to lean away from the malts and towards the hops. Masterful. The finish is medium in body and long. The after-taste is a rich mixture of grassy hops and faint notes of honey. The mouthfeel is a bit thick, but is well tempered by the carbonation resulting in a creaminess that hides the heavy body. The alcohol is virtually undetectable too - it is very well hidden. Overall impression: a very tasty strong lager with interesting layers, or "waves", of flavor. Also, it came in a kick-ass bottle that includes a free-hanging pop-top (as the bottle is capped) that could be used if you don’t drink the whole thing at once (all 26 oz.).
Hopper (277), San Antonio, Texas, USA Oct 27, 2009 An unclear golden beer with a decent head. The aroma is real sweet. The taste is sweet with a thicker body than a regular pilsner & hidden alcohol but is way too expensive & not worth the price tag except you get a nice bottle. DeadGirl (192), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Oct 25, 2009 Pours a clear/bit hazy light yellow-gold from the 750ml swing-top ceramic bottle: The aroma is sweet for a pils and the taste is bold. Dry malts, and bitter hops dominate while some florals balance the overall feel. Drinkability: Strong and generous flavors- I definitely didn’t expect to like it this much. Rebuy: Probably not only because it’s wicked expensive, but would like to enjoy it again. #160 on 25102009, DG. ownch411 (15), USA Oct 21, 2009 750ml Bottle. Golden in color with a medium head and carbonation. Slight hop aroma but tremendous hops in flavor. Thought I was drinking India Pale Ale at first. Only a slight note of pilsner but great full hop flavor none the less that gives way to a slight bitter finish. A good, tasty brew that I would be happy to have more of. MBison (548), Southern Highlands, Australia Oct 19, 2009 Bottle 750ml swing-top. Poured hazy golden orange with an averaged sized, sticky foamy, off-white head which was most lasting. A fruity hop aroma with floral notes; sweet biscuity malts, caramel, overripe kiwifruit, canned pineapple and peaches. Flavor was a good spicy hop bitterness with sweet biscuity malts, caramel, hop resins, white pepper, kiwifruit, passionfruit, overripe nectarines and a dry grassy finish. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a dry hoppy mouthfeel, slick texture and a long length finish. Extremely well balanced, very moreish – almost seasonable. 09maso3 (69), vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Oct 15, 2009 Golden with quickly disapating white head. Noble hop aroma with honey-malt backing. Hoppy flavour. Tastes of pilsner malt. dty finish. Alchohol increases as beer is drank. Medium body. very nice sipper Leighton (234), New York, New York, USA Oct 14, 2009 On tap at Rattle n Hum. Imperial pilsners are great. You get that crispness of a lighter beer with the alcoholic kick of a heavier beer. The Morimoto is a fine example of this preference. Pours a light yellow with a rich white head. Nose is dry hops and mild malt. Flavor is slightly bitter and hoppy. Body is decently carbonated. Overall a great experience. gracefullypunk (272), Washington, USA Sep 23, 2009 On tap at Newport pub location. Pours yellow with very little head. Mild aroma of some sugars, citrus, florals, funk and alcohol. Tastes of floral hops, finishes bitter and earthy with a tinge of alcohol. phaleslu (423), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 12, 2009 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a medium white head. Aroma has hops, straw, spice, floral notes. Flavor is hops, spice, pineapple, malt, grass, bread, and citrus. Bitter, spicy, fruity, medium-bodied, and a mild bitter finish. I never expected something this good with ’Pils’ on the bottle. Excellent for the style and I’ll now be seeking out some other best-in-class of this type.
