jhumphries69 (656), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Jun 23, 2007 Pours a deep and very cloudy gold with hints of orange. It pours up an immense, cloudy, uneven, off-white head that laces the glass heavily and lasts impressively - fading to a persistent, medium-sized, rocky layer floating on the beer. The aroma is an excellent mix of malt and hops - big, chewy, sweet, malty smells mixed with fragrant, grassy, almost perfumy hops. The aroma, overall, leans towards the malts. The first sip has a delightful maltiness. The tip of the tongue detects the sweet flavors of caramel and honey mixed with bitter and flowery hop flavors - again, leaning more towards malty and sweet. The middle of the tongue detects a more complex balance - a taste of peppery, bitter hops slowly begins to balance the huge malt presence. By the end, the back of the tongue tastes a very well-balanced, hoppy mixture that has begun to lean away from the malts and towards the hops. Masterful. The finish is medium in body and long. The after-taste is a rich mixture of grassy hops and faint notes of honey. The mouthfeel is a bit thick, but is well tempered by the carbonation resulting in a creaminess that hides the heavy body. The alcohol is virtually undetectable too - it is very well hidden. Overall impression: a very tasty strong lager with interesting layers, or "waves", of flavor. Also, it came in a kick-ass bottle that includes a free-hanging pop-top (as the bottle is capped) that could be used if you don’t drink the whole thing at once (all 26 oz.).
Rciesla (2800), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Jul 2, 2009 Bottle. Pours a golden body with a white head. Floral citrus and earthy tones with grass and grapefruit. Very hoppy pils, moderate etoh warming with citrus, pine, and grapefruit. Nice pils. dkachur (1909), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jun 24, 2009 Sampled on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a very anemic looking hazy light amber with nearly no head. Aroma is strong caramel with grassy hop notes. Very is very strong and very bitter grassy and peppery hops with caramel and light tropical fruits. Medium bodied with a slightly sticky mouthfeel. j12601 (631), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Jun 22, 2009 On tap at the Peekskill Brewery. Pours a light hazy gold with a thin white head. Light pineapple, citrus, pine, and caramel. Medium bodied, very clean and hides the abv very well. Finishes up with a nice pineapple and grapefruit note. Very nice and almost blurring the lines between styles with some nice DIPA notes. Tasty. JoeyRed (4), Pennsylvania, USA does not count Jun 17, 2009 It’s been a long time since I’ve found this ceramic cased beauty. I believe I was visiting relatives in Florida near Jacksonville and purchased these Rogues.
It poured smooth, foggy, and gold. Fruity aromas filled the air around the glass and complimented the malty taste very well.
Finished nicely, hides the 8.8 ABV nicely.
Always a fan of Rogue.
Vertical Bacon Strips (581), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 15, 2009 ***review from June 26, 2007***
Purchaced in early to mid 2006. Poured out a small off-white cap with a small ammount of retention that sat on top a viscus, cloudy, nice orangy gold brew. Lots of slow moving bubbs. Better than average lacing for a Pilsner. The aroma is nothing special although it does come across appealing, but still only average. You can note the grassy grain and a touch of alcohol but it is well hidden. The fruity aroma lessens along with the level of brew in my glass. There are also some soft biscuity malts. There is a touch of the ’ole grapefruit hops and some alcohol but the hops cover it up nicely. Decent malts too. Good bitter hops. Now that it’s warming, the bitterness has surpassed the majority of other flavours. There is other stuff to find but it comes and goes and is very faint. Medium bodied. If you suck on your tongue you’ll find that the hard bitterness never really leaves. A slight alcohol burn with some harshness as well. A smooth and highly drinkable beer that is totally overpriced but I guess the 20 bucks goes to the ceramic bottle. Nicko (157), Ashfield, Australia Jun 11, 2009 Very lucky to get this last xmas, thanks eczmatic! Drank in March. A little bit off putting in a ceramic bottle, but it poured a deep amber with a light, white head. A spicy, grassy green apple aroma, like a mince tart rolled down a hill i guess. Certainly an ’intense’ mouthful, as the desc. puts it; for a pilsner. Med. hop bitterness , alc. quite prominent. drseusszb200 (106), Florida, USA Jun 8, 2009 poured cloudy golden. smells of fruits, spices and kind of tart. taste is somewhat the same. hints of hops not much. clean aftertaste. one of the better pilsners ive had. thejon375 (363), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 8, 2009 Pours amber yellow with white head. Aromas of sweet malts and spices. Slightly hoppy flavor with malty alcohol on the finish. Not the best from rogue and not really worth the price.
