650 ml bottle, as "Morimoto Soba Ale". Tawny burnt orange with a lasting four-finger head. Aroma is mild honey and lightly toasted grain. Wow, great initial flavor of toasty buckwheat pancake, with a touch of honey, and a side of slightly sour citrus. Unfortunately, the buckwheat flavor doesn’t stand up to the other flavors throughout, and kind of disappears at times. Smooth light-medium body has just enough tingle and finishes a little to the dry side. Unique brew that seems a perfect match for this sunny springtime afternoon.

Bottled as Rogue Morimoto Soba Ale. Pours with a large, off-white, rocky head. Chill hazed golden body. Some decent lacing. Hoppy aroma iwht some maltiness that I cannot place. Taste seems to have some dill in it. A bit watery and boring otherwise. A bit fizzy, and not memorable.

12 oz bottle. Unique rare grain aroma. Planty, yet filled with a heavy musk of earth. Light. Pours a straw-gold with a rim of white. Flavor stays on par with aroma. The buckwheat adds a Musli character of whole grain to the beer, with dextrins and proteins to boot. Chewy and deep. The rest of the beer doesn’t really carry this character too well. There’s an oily sensation and a light nut meat. Light finish on airy, pine hops. Not bad, but nothing too special.

beer poured slightly hazy and amber colored with a good inch of head. Aroma was interesting, reminicent of green tea. Flavor is interesting. It has a certain light crispness, and is just a good change of pace. Palate was medium bodied. An enjoyable and interesting brew.

Bottle labeled Morimoto Soba Ale. Poured a hazy golden yellow color with a slight foaming head. Not much on the aroma, only a slight hop scent. Medium body but very light subdued citrus and hop notes. A bit strange to have medium body but flavors of a light beer. Not bad but not great.

Consumable but it seriously reminded me of a much lesser beer via the appearence. Wheaty grassy with some notes of light fruit and light citrus.

Small taster at Rogue Ale House, San Francisco, 23rd Feb 2008. Light amber in appearance with little aroma. Bland taste and a soft palate. Inoffensive but uninspiring.
