22 oz of Morimoto shared with dpjuart. Pours a clear golden with a lot of sediment and a small white head. Has a sort of dark chocolate / espresso aroma like the chocolate covered beans. Lots of toffee too. Tastes exactly the same as it smells and I have NO idea where it is coming from. I am intrigued. I would really drink this every day. I want to freeze it and ice skate on it... Thin but oily body. Really good.

2 ounce sample. Listed as Morimoto Obi Soba Ale. Tasting at 99 BOTTLES. The initial aroma was one of wet plant leaves after a brisk rainstorm. This leaf aroma translated into the flavor. There is also the presence of a soil flavor, somewhat musty, but in a good way, as well as a "clean" flavor. The carbonation was somewhat lively. This ale intrigued me in many ways that I have still not quite grasped. I wouldn’t seek this out, but I also wouldn’t turn it down if I was offered it again.

Labled Morimoto Soba Ale: Clear golden color with a big white fluffy head. Aroma is mostly grain and citrus. Flavor is fruity with a somewhat spicy finish. Small to medium bodied, big carbonation.

Sampler at San Francisco Rogue Public House labeled as Moimoto Soba. Yellow body, with a thin white cap. Grains and bread in the nose. Flavour is a bit disappointing - its crisp and full of grainy tastes, but not much else.

This is a fizzy yellow beer that was super grainy in taste but nice and clean at the finish. It doesn’t taste bad but it doesn’t taste like much of anything else either.

Dec 2005 - I agree with bfeldmann...what a mess. As soon as the cap was popped, the aroma, even before the pour, came out all over my kitchen. The problem was, it smelled awful. I don’t know what buckwheat or soba noodles smell or taste like, but it smelled like skunk. The taste wasn’t nearly as bad as the smell, but it certainly wasn’t good...funky taste (I guess that’s buckwheat, huh?) with slighlty think mouthfeel with some carbonation. On the brighter side, the cap looks really cool and will look nice in my collection. =)

Very light - and not in a good way. There isn’t much buckwheat flavor, nor is there any other flavor present. Basically a bland blonde ale.
