ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Dec 9, 2007 Light hop aroma. Some sweetness in the pale malts. Basically tastes halfway between a subpar APA and a prety good pale lager with the buckwheat adding a little bit of sourness and an interesting finish. jfm (1694), Holbæk, Denmark Nov 28, 2007 Bottle. Bitter aroma with a light hop note. Smooth sweet and fruity body with a light fruit palate. Light hop notes. Comes of a little boring. clasley (153), Arkansas, USA Oct 31, 2007 650 ml bottle labeled as Morimoto Soba Ale. Pours a light pale somewhat hazy yellow with an adequate white head. Malty, rather earthy nose. Light body offset by a noted nuttiness. Nicely balanced with a semi-dry finish. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 24, 2007 Bottle courtesy of foureyedgeek. Mild aroma of raw grains; toasted malt with cardboard and papery hops, neutral fruit. Bit of floral spice but can’t delineate what it is. Hazy amber, dull, with thin off-white head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts with mild fruity esters. Light grain. Cardboard. After of dill and butterscotch (odd combo). Not very impressive. May be off? Tad sour at the finish, too. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Oct 8, 2007 Updated: Feb 15, 2008A fan of buckwheat to begin with (my main e-mail handle is buckwheatcafe) I love that Rogue used this underappreciated grain in the brewing process. Light-bodied and refreshing, delightfully balanced beer. Not mind-blowing but not all beer needs to be.
(re-rate from bottle): warm honey color. Bland aroma with mild fruitiness. Butterscotch flavors are sweet and cloying. Mouthfeel is fizzy. Funky? Off? Had to pour it down the drain. Will not change scores until I get it again darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Oct 6, 2007 bottle as Soba. Bready doughy aroma. The hops is upfront in the taste with some crispy wheat. Dry at the end, leaving a hoppy aftertaste. interesting. joverton85 (80), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA Oct 5, 2007 morimoto soba ale on sale. good and intresting beer. the buckwheat adds a really intresting flavor i’m not used to. hard to explain. bitter and robust. dmtroyer (409), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 30, 2007 22oz Morimoto Soba Ale. I would love to see this with every flavor intensified a couple of notches. Light gold, head was hard to produce until a pour in the middle of the glass. Moderate carbonation, but decent acid. As I said before, nothing really stands out, possibly the smallest bit of crystallized ginger on the finish. Fairly thin overall, I would love more of a roasted sensation and will hope for the black soba to satisfy that desire.
