Hansen (2235), Randers, Denmark Feb 17, 2007 Amber-orange color, unclear. Has a clear, pleasent toffee-aroma, butter, caramel. Moderate sweet flavor. HenrikSoegaard (4263), Randers, Denmark Feb 17, 2007 Bottle. Creamy wgite good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Powerfull malty aroma. very soapy flavor from the terrible yeast used. Doesnt go well with the way too sweet toffee notes. Oily palate. I really dont like this beer. 2beerguys (299), North Shore, Massachusetts, USA Feb 14, 2007 Morimoto Soba Ale is at first a very appealing beer, based on its gorgeous appearance. However, its aroma and taste do not hold up their end of the bargain, and this ends up being a fairly average beer. It pours a murky medium amber color with an off-white, fully-diminishing head with light carbonation in the body. No lacing remains on the glass. Aroma is of light hops with lemon and citrus notes, although it conjures up images of wet dog and, as such, is not very enticing. Initially moderately sweet, it mellows to a soft sweet finish with an average duration. Watery in texture, it has soft carbonation on the tongue with a lemon tinge. A very interesting beer.
Reviewed in November, 2006. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 9, 2007 Bottled. Golden with some haze. Low but firm white head. Aroma of mild flowers, raw yeast, cookies and Seville oranges. Mild and medoim bitter flavour of nuts, oranges, grass and yeast. Short finish of toffee, nuts and a small citric acidity. ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Feb 9, 2007 Bottle as Morimoto Soba Ale. Amber, orange colour with a dense off white head. Vague roasted malty aroma with notes of some caramel sweetness and hints of fruit. Light roasted bitter flavor with some caramel sweetness and a hoppy dry finish. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Feb 6, 2007 This one comes as Morimoto Soba Ale. It’s warm golden with a nice, creamy head. The aroma is sweetish with notes of grain and slightly perfumed fruit. The flavour is sweetish, very mild and smooth and the notes are light fruit, flower and grain and a light bitterness. The overall impression is light, but also a bit boring - not my beer, even if I normally love the Rogues... 1816 JDUB (170), Beautiful Venice Beach, California, USA Feb 2, 2007 22oz bottle suckeled in Pasadena CA. Labeled Morimoto Soba Ale - this name stuff is pretty confusing. Why don’t they come out with new names when they make...well, new brews! I guess someone at Rogue is quiker at producing new catchy label designs and brew names than they are at making new beer recipes. Now, to the beer. Pours a cloudy deep orange, like a perfect ipa. The aroma is yeasty and very enjoyable. flavor is super light, not much umph but a great session beer - its refreshing and given the low alcohol content something you can gulp if your day warrants such behavior. Very yummy, worth trying. Needs a higher abv, would add to the nose and throat appeal. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Jan 23, 2007 22oz bomber labeled Morimoto Soba Ale--now I understand everyone’s bitch about Rogue relabeling all their brews. Pours a hazy orange golden with a 1/2 finger fading eggshell head. Aroma has some honey, bready malts, toffee, some floral and grassy hops. Flavor is more of the same, very little bitterness noted, mostly sweet malts. Light-medium body with moderate carbonation. Nothing bad, but not really anything interesting.
