Its different, pretty good actually, and nice on a hot day. A little pricey though as most Rogue ales are. The soba nut is a nice addition brings out a complex grain body. Looks like a pale, but its much better.

6/21/2008: Rogue Morimoto Soba is golden in color and well-carbonated. It has a foamy beige-colored head. It smells like grain and raw wheat. The flavor has a light grassy hop quality as well as raw wheat and a little dryness. This beer has a medium-light and is very delicate and refreshing.

22 fl. oz. bottle (12° Plato, 30 IBU, 75.2 AA, 14° L) enjoyed during the Grand Banquet at the 2009 American Homebrewers Association Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating #680 for this beer.

Urine yellow color with a ring of head. Uric acide and green tea lear aroma, that is decidedly unappealing. Green tea accented flavor with a cleanish finish, and somewhat surprisingly, no real tannic bitterness.

Sampled on draft at the Music City Brewers Festival. Clear golden amber pour with ring of white head. Initial reaction: that does taste like soba noodles! Nose is sweet and wheaty like a good german heffy. Flavor is sweet and semi lemony, is there rice in this? A little adjuncty. But overall, pretty refreshing and fun to try.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark amber color with a small cream colored head that faded quickly. The aroma was tangy, nutty and a bit soapy and off with a touch of spicy floral hops underneath. The flavor was tangy, bitter and sharply tart. There was a touch of sugar and faint ripe fruits and a touch of spicy hops. The finish was short, sharp, tangy and off. Disappointing.

Fancy Japanese import bottle. Under the alias ROGUE BUCKWHEAT ALE. Thinking I bought this @ Surdyk’s on trip to Surly Darkness 08. Pours golden yellow. Smells of urine, wheat, hay, and tuna. Doesn’t taste much better. Thin palate. Didn’t know this was brewed with soba. Maybe that explains it.

Meh. Pours an orange gold with a white head. Nose full of light malt, toasty hops, and almost wheat (I think it’s the Soba...). Flavor is refreshing but thin and almost disappears on the tongue. Wheaty, crisp, malty lemon, and yeast are most of a smooth palate.

more from Khory’s in Vegas...
I think this was the 4th or 5th beer I bought and drank that one night. Needless to say I got to ’sleep in’ the next morning. Stupid wine fridge was filled with beer! Atta boy, Jeff! (patting myself on the back). Hazy yellow gold brew with an endless bubbly white cap that always comes back on a swirl. The aroma instantly reminded me of Innis & Gunn crap - just less horrible - a lot less actually., weak spice, orange, very good background aroma, lemon air freshener. The taste of crackers was first followed by a dry, dull bitterness and more bready malts. Slight sourness, dusty dry, white chocolate??? (faint). Medium bodied, tons of carbonation. Dry, slightly bitter finish. Forgettable.
