trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA Jan 9, 2006 Morimoto Soba, bottle. Poured light amber, hazy, with minimal head. Wheaty, citrus nose with some sourness. Taste is very light and clean, with a little bite. Didn’t really taste the toastiness. A subtle, good brew. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 7, 2006 Poured a hazy light orange color with a small amount of fizzy white head. Aroma is very citrusy, especially smelling of grapefruit and pineapple. Flavor is very light and crisp with a very different distinct flavor which must be buckwheat. Overall, an interesting light tasting brew. WOuld be very good in the summer on a hot day. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Jan 5, 2006 22z bottle. Morimoto Soba. Golden amber hue, with white head and large bubbles. Wheaty yeasty nose. Citrus and bitter. Somewhat rubbery.Lively in the mouth. There was a flavor that I could not put my finger on, which was probably the buckwheat. Good but not great. radagast83 (1273), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jan 1, 2006 Morimoto Soba Ale 22 oz bottle. Pretty good roasted flavor, not too overpowering. A pretty good standard ale from Rogue. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Dec 30, 2005 Bomber: Morimoto Soba Signature Ale. Allspice aroma and not much hops in the nose. Hazy, murky orange- almost amber with a huge, lasting off-white head. Not much lace, but still, an excellent appearance. Has some spice at initial mouthfeel. Is that that "soba" that the bottle says is one of the ingredients? What’s soba? Nice bite and pretty well balanced and pleasant. Session quality, however, my mid-bottle, I was tired of it; just didn’t keep my tongue all that interested. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Dec 30, 2005 Updated: Jun 1, 2008Orangish amber color, moderate head, some lacing and retention. Aroma is soba, bread, their yeast, lightly fruity, overall very light. Medium bodied, lightly sweet with a very light tartness from the soba. Bland at best. RCWCPACFP (102), New Jersey, USA Dec 29, 2005 Roasted flavor does indeed meet the mouth and nose but slip away quickly only to come back plat and tire rubber like. No kidding a very mediocre beer from the brewer that makes one of the best Stouts ever. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Dec 22, 2005 One pint, six oz brown bottle purchased from Armanetti’s, Mundelein, IL. Labeled as Morimoto soba ale. Clear orange hued ale having an average sized diminishing off white head with spare lacing. No discernable carbonation. Fruity, sweet malt aroma. Medium bodied that starts with light sweet malt and hop flavor. Some slight sharpness detected. Finished dry with bitterness and nutty malt aftertaste. A good drinkable, clean tasting, light hoppy beer, though a bit watery for my taste.
