FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA Apr 5, 2005 Morimoto bottle. A semi-opaque tarnished gold color. Small head with little to no linger. Malt aromatics predominate, with a complex accent that is reminiscent of wheat malt enough for me to assume is the soba. Velvety mouthfeel with an underlying crispness. Roasted. nutty, wheat flavors very similar in some characteristics to the Morimoto Hazelnut. Several hearty flavors, but with a light-medium body that makes it rather refreshing. I like the taste that the buckwheat adds, but I like that it doesn’t weigh down the body or palate even more. BrewEd (182), Wilmington, North Carolina, USA Apr 2, 2005 Interesting & complex. I had this at a sushi bar in the Morimoto bottle. Hoppy up front with a nice spicy, nutty body. Finishes crisp and clean. A better choice than a rice beer to accompany sushi. swirl (267), collingswood, New Jersey, USA Mar 27, 2005 A nice slightly cloudy golden color with nice hoppiness in the aroma that draws you to take a sip. Flavor is somewhat like a pale ale only slightly mellower. doostinjcap (43), Newport, Oregon, USA Mar 16, 2005 Updated: Apr 24, 2005Enjoyable Ale! Light foamy head, dark gold in colour, spices, hops, and not to mention plenty of Buckwheat! This ale is a pleasure for you taste buds! ’Tip of the cap’ to John Maier! A perfect afternoon delight! Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Mar 13, 2005 Morimoto bottle. Hazy amber body topped with an average lasting off-white foamy head. Pleasant malty/yeasty aroma with hints of hops, buckwheat and spices. Original and relatively complex taste. It is dominated by fresh hoppy flavors. We can also detect some nutty, biscuity, melony and flowery notes. Ends with a decent bitter finish. Good stuff. Very refreshing. ChrisPants (317), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 10, 2005 Morimoto bottle. Vanilla, leather. Honey with bizarre fruit--unripe honeydew or moldy pomegranate. Wheaty florals, balanced mouthfeel, clean finish.
